ART WORLD GOSSIP: Award-winning artist Zanele Muholi's archives were stolen from her home on April 20th, something the media has clearly ignored. Muholi's controversial work documents the lives of black lesbians in southern Africa. Her archives contained over five years of work, including funerals of victims of homophobic hate crimes. It is thought the burglars specifically targeted Muholi's work, as little else was taken from her home. Read the full story here... [DIVA & ABP]

Art World Gossip: Exhibition A released its next artist's print “Count the Crows” by Aurel Schmidt. The tension of loss and temptation, the modern voodoo in contextualizing detritus as keepsake: there is a fearlessness at the heart of Aurel Schmidt's work that has mesmerized the likes of Jeffrey Deitch, Dakis Joannou, and the Whitney Museum. She is best known for her explorations of grotesque beauty (think cigarette burns and banana peels).

Historically May 1st has been reserved as an international celebration of the contribution (and struggle) the working class has made each year. Since 2006, this day has been reserved to honor the contribution immigrants make in the US, posing the question of what would a day without an immigrant be like? Political rhetoric would have you believe that immigrants only drain our country of vital resources. However, the contrary is true. FOR THE MARCH: Meet at 12 (noon) at Union Square South.

Artist Miru Kim spent 104 hours in a glass-encased hog pit inside of the Primary Flight Gallery at Art Basel 2012 for her performance I Like Pigs and Pigs Like Me. The makeshift pen was livestreamed as Kim imagined the life of a pig, mingling her flesh with the animals’. Nude and on all fours, she interacted with her companions, feeding, hugging, scratching, and rolling around with them.

The “Cultural Differences” search engine, hatched by contemporary photo-conceptualist Taryn Simon and programmer Aaron Swartz. The duo created a Web page where you can search for any term, and see the results of an image search performed for it both in the United States and on local search engines in other countries, thereby visualizing the different ways that concepts get presented to different cultures on the Internet. Check it out, here.
