Autumn Landscape [1890s].. This window is from Tiffany's Impressionist period. Selected sheets of Favril glass are combined into a sky as "impressionist" as one produced by the painters. The window appears even more spontaneous because of the light that is transmitted through it, a uniqueness of glass unknown to the painters on canvas.

Detail from the spectacular Greene & Greene lantern for James A. Culbertson in Pasadena. The wooden detailings at the corner are based on corbel bracket arms from Chinese Liao architecture (or so I'm told).

Brent Kimmel It amazes me how none of Greene & Greene’s work begs for attention – you could probably walk by this lamp a hundred times and never notice the details – but when you do stop to look, the subtle complexities of the thing are just overwhelmingly beautiful. In his book “Greene and Greene: Poems of Wood and Light”, author David Mathias (who was my computer science professor at one point, oddly enough) posits that this is a reflection of the Greenes’ (conscious or unconscious) efforts to achieve the Japanese aesthetic ideal of shibusa. Insofar as I’ve seen, no Western designer or architect in the century since G&G have been able to achieve that integration of Eastern aesthetics and American Craftsmanship quite as naturally as they did.
Sam Pryor Wonderful comment. This lamp has been pinned on this board before and if you pause to look at the stained glass, not to mention the design and the wood, it is gorgeous.
Original Greene& Greene lamp...Never seen one like this before.
