kcrw presents another round of first fridays at the natural history museum. enjoy free performances by great local artists, starting with local natives (pictured) in january. past guests have included edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros. this series is a must-see, and you get the bonus of being in one of the best museums in the city!

some may say that the art of the mixed tape is dead. perhaps it is, but that only means that it has been reincarnated by one of our favorite websites, 8tracks.com. 8tracks provides the utilities of music sites like pandora with the nostalgia of planning and decorating a classic mix tape. it might not be quite as thrilling as having that tangible object, but it provides the perfect reconciliation of tradition and modernity for our eager ears.

black iris' own best coast joined forces with wavves to create our favorite of the target christmas compilation songs this holiday season. now they are touring together for what is bound to be a fantastic time. check them out in los angeles on february 24th at the music box theatre in hollywood.
