where to go :: this may not be the valentine's day activity, as the most recent show just passed this weekend, but the devil's night drive in offers one of the few movie experiences that los angeles has not been able to hold on to: the drive in movie theatre. based in a lot in downtown los angeles, once a month the devil's night drive in brings you classic movies that you can drive in, bike in, or walk in to see. the angel city derby girls provide tons of food right to your car! upcoming shows include the dark crystal, trainspotting, and grease 2. we are there!

where to go :: bar covell is a wonderful pub situated in lovely los feliz. they've got wine experts on staff, some of the best bartenders around and a menu that can please everyone. we read via their website (www.barcovell.com...) that the oklahoma-native owner was inspired by his hometown and the ambience of the east side of los angeles, so he decided to combine these things to form the amazing amalgam that is covell. enjoy wine, beer, and good times here!

where to go :: waterloo & city! this hip spot emerged in west los angeles within the past year, replacing what was back-in-the-day an ihop lot. we have to say that we are pretty pleased with that change. waterloo & city offers a mouth-watering menu (including scallops, pictured here) and some of the best drinks in town. impress your date, because this is definitely a valentine's day winner!

where to go :: the wellesbourne bar opened in mid-december of last year in the heart of west los angeles. seated on pico, right by the landmark theatres, there is just something so cozy about this place. the old books that line the walls, the delicious drink menu, and the games (i'm looking at you, shuffleboard!) give this place a real nostalgic feel, while retaining a level of sophistication that never borders on pretension. two thumbs way up!

what to play :: okay, okay. we went over our top fives for music. but what would this list be without etta james? we all know her for "at last" and countless other hits. and frankly, like billie holiday, anything you choose from her enormous catalog of music will probably fit the right valentine's day mood. we highly recommend "trust in me," lesser known than "at last," but equally riveting.

what to play :: we couldn't very well have a romantic music list without including one of the all-time greatest, billie holiday. every single song she sings is beautiful and her voice is so enigmatic, but for valentine's day we like to amp up the shmaltz factor a little bit and go with "cheek to cheek."
