Infrared film is notoriously difficult to use, as it is critically heat sensitive. Kodak's instructions state that the film lasts just seven days at room temperature. It must be kept in a freezer. Taking infrared film into a sub-Saharan war zone, where freezers are hard to come by and power cuts frequent, is pushing the medium far beyond its limits. What's more, the film was past its expiry date and the stock limited as it had recently been discontinued and was very scarce
