Jennifer Spinner It would be great if this was a true statement!
Angie Kauffman I really believe it. It doesn't say you'll be successful or everything will always be great. Heck - he said it as part of a speech at a really low point for him.
Jennifer Spinner I guess it depends on what "amazing" means to the individual. I think this sort of statement "sells" in the West where we have so many more opportunities for success - whether it's financially or in our health. It reminds me a lot of the "health and prosperity" teaching that is so prevalent today, as well as the garbage "Secret" pushed by Oprah. That sort of message simply cannot be given in a place like the Sudan or the vast majority of the "third" world. Lots of really wonderful, kind people deal with one horrific event after another. Knowing Christ puts it in perspective, of course, but there's a big difference in "all things working together for good" and "work hard, be nice and you'll have amazing things happen."
Angie Kauffman Agreed about the word amazing. And, that's why I think it's accurate. I guess I have pretty low expectations for what "amazing" is. And, sometimes there are amazing moments in the depths of adversity. (I am not familiar with "Secret" that Oprah is promoting, but can just imagine what that is based on her promoting it, and have no interest.) I think the key to this all is adjusting what "amazing" means. I think some people want for too much or think that amazing things happening has to mean success or power. I don't think that was his intention, and was certainly not what I heard when I first heard it.
do not regret growing older
