To keep the cake stand clean while frosting, line the edge with 3-inch strips of waxed paper. Center the first cake layer over the strips. When finished frosting, carefully remove the strips one piece at a time.

Leslie Brown hey! I have thought about doing this with wrapping paper as well. Do you think that wrapping paper would be too thin and possibly transfer to the cake
Anita Elmore You actually use clear contact paper to "laminate" it and stick it to the board. The clear contact paper protects the paper and makes it easy to clean up any extra icing that gets on the board while you're decorating. I just did it on my last cake and it worked wonderfully!
