Bernie Rosage Jr. I love to study and work from the old masters. This small painting is a cover of a portion of a larger work by Eugene Boudin titled, “Jetty at High Tide, Trouville.” I have been an admirer and student of Boudin’s work for some time but had the privilege of seeing his work in person for the first time at the Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism Exhibit (October 21, 2007–January 20, 2008) at the North Carolina Museum of Art

No more mosquitos!! Cut the top (just before the start of the cone) off a 2 liter bottle. Invert the cone and place it inside the straight part of the bottle. Glue the two pieces together, using a glue or silicon. Add 1 tsp yeast and 1/2 cup sugar to some luke warm water, and pour the mixture into the bottle. Mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide that you exhale. The yeast feeds off the sugar and emits the same gas, so the mosquito enters the bottle, thinking she will find food there.

Bernie Rosage Jr. The mounds of the Civil War fort, Fort Fisher, are a perfect place to take a peaceful and scenic stroll today. The scrub oaks, mounds, visitor's center, and views of the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Fear River make the spot a favorite North Carolina tourist destination. On January 12, 1865, Union ships bombarded the fort. Some have estimated the Union firepower to be approximately 100 shells per minute. The incessant Union fire continued until mid-day on January 15, when Union troops stormed the fort from all sides. Hand-to-hand combat ensued. A few hours later, Union troops captured the fort. With the fort’s capture, the Confederacy lost only remaining supply line to its infantry protecting the Confederate capital, Richmond, Virginia. The Battle of Fort Fisher was the largest amphibious assault in history until surpassed by D'Day during World War II.

Bernie Rosage Jr. Ladies View is a scenic point along of the Ring of Kerry, in Killarney National Park, Ireland. The name comes from admiration of the view given by Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting during their 1861 visit. Ladies View is the most famous and photographed view of Killarney and is approximately 11 miles from the town of Killarney, one of our favorite stays during our visit.

Bernie Rosage Jr. One day while plein air painting on the beach at Emerald Isle, NC at thunder storm blew in fast. Needless to say I didn't finish my painting but I did snap a few photos before retiring to the car. The light breaking through the thunderhead was an awesome sight... the contrasting light is forever imprinted in my mind's eye!
