Part of the joy of crafting is being able to share the finished project with someone we love. An extension of sharing that loving effort is to share our crafting efforts with those in need. With the economy in its current state, many charities are left needing help financially. I hope we crafters can come to their aid, each as we are able. Crafts for charities are a very rewarding way to help when we remember that we're helping two ways. First we're helping a deserving charity help those in need. We're also helping the needy by providing a durable, useful gift that keeps on giving. Another way to share is to share from what we have. There was a news story one night of a local food bank here that ran out of food. Sharing the food we have goes a long way to helping those who are going without. Every little bit helps. There are also charities that need craft supplies like yarn or fabric, so if you don't have time to make something ~ you can send supplies. A third way to help is the focus of this page, to use our crafting abilities to offer comfort and hope to those in need.

I've always enjoyed crocheting granny squares. Recently, I came across a Flickr photo with brightly colored flower granny squares. Hoping to make a baby blanket from them, I looked for instructions. Unfortunately, the photo didn't link to any. I spent an evening creating these flowered granny squares in similar color patterns to the ones I'd seen. I wrote instructions as I made them so that others might use them. My instructions are written so beginners can easily follow them.
