Showing dynamic use of materials and technology, Gilbert Rohde (American, 1894–1944) created this Z clock for the Herman Miller Clock Company, Zeeland, Mich., in 1933. Replacing a traditional clock case with glass, enamel and chromium-plated steel, he echoed the streamlined look popular at the time and lowered production costs; 11¾ by 12 by 3 inches. The clock was exhibited at A Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago, 1933–34. Dallas Museum of Art.
