Dee Dee Have you ever noticed in those old time pictures they never smile. It's like they were told not to...
Jamie Miranda My grandfather said, after seeing a picture of him when he was a little boy..with his mom and dad, that they really were told not to smile. Even as children if they got caught smiling they were told to cut it out. "life is hard, there aint no reason to smile about it" is what he was told as a kid. ...
Belle Coyle There's more to it than that. It took time for a picture to be taken, holding a smile for 5 minutes isn't as easy as it sounds. Plus they were emulating what they knew, which were paintings...not too many people smiling in those either.

"Stenographers' room, Leland & Faulconer Manufacturing Co., Detroit." It's always helpful to have a calendar in the room when dating a photo, and here we've hit the jackpot. In fact the main focus of this room seems to be calendars, with paperweights a strong second.
