Vinegar works as a wood stain when you add a metal object in the mix and let it sit in a glass container for a week. A handful of pennies will produce a beautiful pale Caribbean blue stain. A wad of steel wool will give you a rich reddish hue. A combination of tea and a metal object in vinegar will produce a black stain.

Use baking soda and vinegar to fix funky towels. Over time, and with many washes, your bath towels will build up detergent and fabric softener residue, leaving them both unable to absorb as much water and smelling kinda funky when they do. Rather than give Target another lump sum, run them through the wash once with hot water and a cup of vinegar, then again with hot water and a half-cup of baking soda, as wikiHow suggests. That strips the residue from them, leaves them smelling fairly fresh ...

MATTRESS spring cleaning: pour about 1 cup of baking soda into a mason jar and drop in 4 drops of lavender essential oil. Put on the lid and shake up the jar.Using a kitchen strainer sprinkle the baking soda mixture all over the mattress and let it sit. Leave it for the time it takes for me to finish washing all the bedding. Using the hose end of your vacuum and an upholstery attachment. The baking soda helps draw up any moisture and deep dirtiness. It deodorizes and leaves the mattress smelling fresh and clean.

Lemonade Kool-Aid as Dishwasher Cleaner Clean lime deposits and iron stains inside the dishwasher by pouring a packet of lemonade Kool-Aid (the only flavor that works) into the detergent cup and running the (empty) dishwasher. The citric acid in the mix wipes out stains; you don't have to. @lowescreativeideas.com

to get rid of the nasty black gunk in your drain: 1. Put a pot of water to boil. 2. Meanwhile pour baking soda down the drain. Baking soda has the ability to neutralize fatty acids so it will work and eating away the grime while you are waiting for the water to boil. 3. Once the water has reached a rolling boil remove it from the stove and pour it down the drain. 4. Let the water and baking soda work at decomposing and sterilizing the grime for 10 minutes. 5. After 10 minutes has expired pour 1 cup of bleach down the drain to completely kill any remaining mildew or bacteria. Because we use our sinks multiple times on a daily basis I recommend repeating this process every few months. Repeating this process on a regular basis will keep the "creepy black stuff" from accumulating and clogging your sink. It will also keep the nasty mildew smell at bay.

Great idea for lunches -- make smoothies, freeze them, then put them in their lunchboxes frozen (they will thaw before lunch plus act as a cold pack for other things).

Simply rub chalk onto greasy stains and the chalk powder will absorb the grease, making the stain easily removable by the laundry soap in the wash. Thanks!
