Kat Oliver I'm showing the new colorways dyed on some of the different yarns carried by Scarlet Fleece (www.scarletfleece.com) @Cheryl Beckerich

This is my 2nd swatch for the Escape Cardigan. Let me know which one you like best please.

This swatch is out of the same yarn, Painted Merino, but in a different colorway. Swatches are critical for writing a pattern, as well as knitting from that pattern!

Sherri Adams Where can I get this yarn? I'm so in love with the colorway!

Profile picture of Cheryl Beckerich

Cheryl Beckerich I was going to let you know to look at www.scarletfleece.com, but you found it before I got the chance!

Profile picture of Sherri Adams

Sherri Adams I lost the link you gave for the sweater you knitted with this yarn - I'd love to buy the pattern.

Profile picture of Cheryl Beckerich

Cheryl Beckerich Creative Knitting magazine holds the copyright for this pattern. If you happen to be one of their electronic subscibers, you can get access to 2 years of back issues. It is really a pretty good deal. As far as I can tell, they are not selling this one as an individual pattern.

A quick knitted swatch of Escape. I don't feel the pic does the colors justice,

Cheryl Beckerich I love it. I can't wait to see it in person

After touching up yarn, ready to wash the yarn. I use Palmolive.

I record the new "escape" colorway into the dye recipe book to refer to for future.

Kat Oliver More pictures to be added as I move forward into the process. See Scarlet Fleece Facebook page for additional photos not seen here.

Colors are poured in predetermined quadrants.

Kat Oliver Once yarn is heated and steaming, colors are poured. Because of the heat-the dye is quickly absorbed by the dye. If I were to pour the dye when yarn is cold, then the color transitions would be more blurred.

Kat Oliver I use (and distribute for the USA market) Landscapes dyes by Kraft Kolour

After adding water-we set the temp to 180˚.

Kat Oliver I use a heat source where the temp can be set-we do not want the yarn to boil.

Kat Oliver These are 10 skeins of dk weight washable merino-soon to be Painted Merino in "Escape" colorway.

New color studies-I like the starred ones. The lighter color is a light turquois. Darker color is a blue grey.

Kat Oliver Ok-I did a series of triads with the mountains and comments in mind. I think the simpler 3 color format is more striking-but please add comments-as the yarn has arrived and I will be dyeing it beginning of next week. (Yea!)

Kat Oliver @Cheryl Beckerich What do you think?

Profile picture of Judy Hinkes

Judy Hinkes Oh - I Love them all! You can't go wrong with any of these choices! The one choice you can make is how much contrast do you want between the various colors in the sweater's design? Subtle color changes... or more distinct changes..... Can't wait to see what you will choose. :)

Kat Oliver I'm thinking I like the sleeves.

Teresa Halvorson-Fox I love the sleeves. This is something anyone any size could wear.

Kat Oliver Hi Cheryl...I like it-which yarn?

Profile picture of Patricia Pollard

Patricia Pollard Depending on the weight of yarn, vest could be worn more often than with sleeves

Profile picture of Cheryl Beckerich

Cheryl Beckerich I like sample 3 too

Profile picture of Judy Hinkes

Judy Hinkes I like color study 5 - sample 3 because there is good contrast - the yellows in the other color studies seem quite harsh - I love this mellow blend of blues greens and purples

Profile picture of Cheryl Beckerich

Cheryl Beckerich I like the turquoise too, but I think not in this colorway

Profile picture of Theresa Baxter

Theresa Baxter I like Color Study 5, sample 3, summer/fall coloring.

Profile picture of Cheryl Beckerich

Cheryl Beckerich SAMPLE 3 is the chosen colorway. Let the dying process begin!

Profile picture of Judy Hinkes

Judy Hinkes I like color study 4 sample 5, but not a fan of the yellow in sample 6

Profile picture of Cheryl Beckerich

Cheryl Beckerich My eyes keep going to Color study 5, sample 3. I like the saturation of the color and the combination.. I am just not a fan of the yellow-green with the blue, grape, dark green.

Profile picture of Cheryl Beckerich

Cheryl Beckerich Ha - I made the same comment twice, and both times under the wrong picture!

Profile picture of Theresa Baxter

Theresa Baxter I like Color study 4, sample 5, good spring colors

Color study 3, samples 10 and 11

Profile picture of Sherry Anderson

Sherry Anderson I prefer sample 6. This is way too dark for spring!

Profile picture of Sherry Anderson

Sherry Anderson Sorry, I meant color study 3 sample 7. I don't see 8 and 9, but I think 10 and 11 just moved me from Spring to Winter

Cheryl Beckerich Escape - I like that. lets look at it with a gray, just to make sure. Can we see it with a light gray and a darker gray?

Profile picture of Judy Hinkes

Judy Hinkes A nice blue-grey would work well with the purple.

Profile picture of Sherry Anderson

Sherry Anderson Do we have to take out a color to bring in the grey? If we do I recommend the dark green. If not - I can't wait to see the next step! How fun!

Profile picture of Kat Oliver

Kat Oliver Ok...let me put something together-I'll try a dark blue grey to work in first-maybe make that the primary color. We don't want too many colors-no more than 4-actually 3 is better. Because we also get some "sub-colors as they touch one another.

Sherry Anderson Can't wait to see it!

Kat Oliver On these color sample-actual dyes and dyed yarn are used.

I like the brilliance of these colors, and especially the greens

Profile picture of Kat Oliver

Kat Oliver I'm liking this the best-that pop of yellow-green-although not sure I like the spring green.

Profile picture of Cheryl Beckerich

Cheryl Beckerich I like the spring green, and am not as thrilled with the yellow green (in the picture). In the yarn - I am thinking more dark green, grays, charcoal, a little white and sky blue
