Leslie Hyder LOL, a crib is a good place to start :) Co-sleeping can be dangerous...and really...it's nice to put baby in the crib so you can get a full night's rest. A diaper pail isn't essential (especially at first when their diapers don't stink that bad). But, once they get older, it's really useful. Unless you plan on putting their diaper in a plastic bag and then throwing it immediately. If you put it in a regular trash can, it's going to be stinkin'! Toys are essential..I mean, if you're going to end up buying them down the road...why not just buy them earlier so your kid can play with and enjoy them (might as well get your money's worth, right?)
Leslie Hyder **put the bags in the trash can immediately is what I meant to say :) Also, shoes are completely useless...but oh my, they're so cute!!! Plus, there are plenty of soft-soled shoes, which are much more comfortable and practical for baby. I used to agree with the designer comment..until I had my own kids! I always though "why spend all that money on clothes when they don't care what they're wearing?? Save that money for when they're teenagers and care about appearances." But really, it's so fun to play dress up with your kid, and have them looking nice. I put Ev in dresses...even if we're just going to the park to play in the dirt :P

Jacqui-Bay Slusher I am totally against co-sleeping, so the crib is the most important for me. Well, that and a Kate Spade diaper bag :)
Christiana DC I totally get the side car/basinette to the side of the bed thing...but in the bed... not so much. I'm not great at sharing the bed with my husband and two cats, let alone a baby!!!
