Who knew?? Use baking soda and vinegar to fix funky towels. Over time, and with many washes, your bath towels will build up detergent and fabric softener residue, leaving them both unable to absorb as much water and smelling kinda funky when they do. Mix a paste of baking soda and lemon juice. The consistency of the paste should be about that of pancake mix. Spread the paste all along the bottom of the toilet (where it meets the floor), the toilet seat, and any other area that gets a lot of overspray. Let it set for about 10-15 minutes. Then spray the dried paste with white vinegar. Let it fizzle. When done fizzing wipe up with a damp cloth. Don't forget about the walls and cupboards on either side of the toilet.

Place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with plain white vinegar on the top rack of the dishwasher. Using the hottest water available, run the dishwasher through a cycle. The vinegar will help to wash away the loose, greasy grime, sanitizes, and helps remove the musty odor. Next, sprinkle a cupful of baking soda around the bottom of the tub and run it through a short cycle. The baking soda will help freshen and removing stains.

How to remove stinky mildew smell from towels: Wash on hot w/ no detergent, but 2 cups white vinegar instead. Wash again on hot w/ detergent + 1/2 cup baking soda. Dry COMPLETELY - use no fabric softener. This totally worked for us!! @jessiemiller a solution!!
