The newspaper will prevent any grass and weed seeds from germinating, but unlike fabric, it will decompose after about 18 months. By that time, any grass and weed seeds that were present in the soil on planting will be dead. It’s green, it’s cheaper than fabric, and when you decide to remove or redesign the bed later on, you will not have the headache you would with fabric.

backyard splash pad! No up keep. Small footprint. Cheaper than a pool. Safer than a pool. Awesome.

TUTORIAL I made newspaper pots to sow them in and get them started. The pots are super easy to make, free, and earth friendly. And once your seedlings are old enough to move out on their own you just pop them into the ground -- paper pot and all.

Test your soil. Place a handful of dirt into a small container and sprinkle vinegar on it. If it fizzes, the soil is alkaline; adjust the pH with an acid amendment.

Backyard Bistro Festooned with sheer outdoor fabric panels (even the tassels are weather-resistant), the structure transforms into a backyard dining spot for four. A candle chandelier, hung low over the table, adds another layer of charm to the structure.
