Do a similar activity on a smaller scale in a homeschool to build storytelling (narration), sequencing and comprehension.

Literacy lessons based on The Mitten

Stephanie Williams I like this graphic organizer. I can use this in kindergarten also. We read this story every year. I let the children take turns being the characters. I have a huge white bed sheet that is "the mitten." As I re-read, each character goes into the mitten as I read it (they sit under it). The students who are not characters help hold the edge and lift the "mitten" like a parachute when the bear sneezes. It's a lot of fun that we do on a re-read day, not the first time we read. I also have to set alot of ground rules before we do this.
