The Crystal Cave of Giants located inside the Naica Mine in Chihuahua, Mexico was accidentally discovered in 2001. The heat prevents them from studying this site further. The vibrations are so intense, one worker talked of the deeply mystical and immense dreams he had. He had no words to describe... It lies almost 300 meters below the Earths surface. It is the home to the largest crystals known in the world which are over 11 meters long and weigh 55 tons.

Gallium is a silvery metal with atomic number 31. It’s used in semiconductors and LEDs, but the cool thing about it is its melting point, which is only about 85 degrees Fahrenheit. If you hold a solid gallium crystal in your hand, your body heat will cause it to slowly melt into a silvery metallic puddle. Pour it into a dish, and it freezes back into a solid. While you probably shouldn’t lick your fingers after playing with it, gallium isn't toxic and won’t make you crazy like mercury does. ...

"Mammatus clouds are most often associated with the anvil cloud and severe thunderstorms. They often extend from the base of a cumulonimbus, but may also be found under altocumulus, altostratus, stratocumulus, and cirrus clouds, as well as volcanic ash clouds. When occurring in cumulonimbus, mammatus are often indicative of a particularly strong storm or perhaps even a tornadic storm."

This is a rare meteorological phenomenon called a skypunch. When people see these, they think it's the end of the world. Ice crystals form above the high-altitude cirro-cumulo-stratus clouds, then fall downward, punching a hole in the cloud cover. #Meteorology #Weather #Clouds

Winter bubbles! As long as the temperature is below 0C or 32F, the bubbles will freeze and shatter when they fall to the ground! We'll have to test this out. :)

The largest canyon in the Solar System cuts a wide swath across the face of Mars. Named Valles Marineris, the grand canyon extends over 3,000 kilometres long, spans as much as 600 kilometres across, and is as much as 8 kilometres deep. By comparison, Earth's Grand Canyon is 800 kilometres long, 30 kilometres across, and 1.8 kilometres deep. The origin of the Valles Marineris remains unknown, although a leading hypothesis holds that it started as a crack billions of years ago as the planet cooled. The above mosaic was created from over 100 images of Mars taken by Viking Orbiters in the 1970s.

NASA have released this image of a huge solar flare near the edge of the Sun. It blew out a waving mass of erupting plasma that swirled and twisted over a 90-minute period on February 24. This event was captured in extreme ultraviolet light by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory spacecraft . Some of the material blew out into space and other portions fell back to the surface. Because SDO images are super-HD, scientists are able to zoom in on the action and still see exquisite details. A similar flare on Valentine's Day caused concern about possible disruptions on Earth, although scientists suggest the latest eruption poses no threat. Picture: NASA/GSFC/SDO / Rex Features

The Haunted Playground. Scientists have reportedly been left baffled by a “haunted” playground swing that rocks backwards and forwards on its own. Locals in Firmat, Argentina claim one seat swings nonstop for ten days before stopping dead, while other swings remain still. Parents and children are convinced a ghost is to blame for the phenomenon, reports The Sun. They reported the swing to police after it began moving four months ago, Police officers had to admit they were stumped and called in physics professors but they too failed to find a logical explanation. Teacher Maria de Silva Agustina said: “One child called it the Blair Witch Playground. We believe it is haunted.” Academics have now ruled out magnetic and electrical fields, and winds - and called in ghosthunters.
