Social anxiety disorder is a strong fear of being judged by others and of being embarrassed. This fear can be so strong that it gets in the way of going to work or school or doing other everyday things. Everyone has felt anxious or embarrassed at one time or another. For example, meeting new people or giving a public speech can make anyone nervous. But people with social anxiety disorder worry about these and other things for weeks before they happen. People with social anxiety disorder are afraid of doing common things in front of other people. For example, they might be afraid to sign a check in front of a cashier at the grocery store, or they might be afraid to eat or drink in front of other people, or use a public restroom. Most people know that they shouldn't be as afraid as they are, but they can't control their fear. Sometimes, they end up staying away from places or events where they think they might have to do something that will embarrass them. For some people, it is a problem only in certain situations, while others have symptoms in almost any social situation. It affects more than five million Americans any given year. Diagnoses include panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social phobia (or social anxiety disorder), specific phobias, and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). OCD and PTSD have their own Boards.
This poster was based on a study done by a psychology student who suffered from anxiety and depression. She documented the subjects of her dreams before and after she began taking Zoloft. The silhouette represents the student, while the text represents different themes that appeared in the dreams. The colors seperated the before and after results of taking Zoloft.

How many of us with mental health disorders have felt or do feel this? or said it? I have - have you? Honestly?

Please listen - I know it's not pleasant; maybe you've heard it before; but please - I need to feel connected to someone who cares - please...

I can remember thinking this when I had a long period without it and on minimal medication - then WHAM! back it came with a vengeance! MOFO. The program I've been working is mindfulness and acceptance - I wonder if I'll ever be able to accept this disorder? It's far easier, somehow, to accept the depression part. Anxiety and panic are major FUCKERS.

I've been avoiding everything because nothing really matters to me the way it used to. I'm also avoiding everything because it just seems to difficult nowadays to get past the social anxiety, the fear that I'll never be good enough, and the feeling that it won't matter in the end anyway.

Anxiety Disorders: medication really does help. It doesn't make it go away, but takes the edge off it, so that you can cope better.

Coleen Uyehara You are welcome. Anxiety disorders are the most often diagnoses mental illness. Mine is PTSD. Panic attacks are horrible. Unless, you've experience clinical anxiety, if feel like others really don't know what it is like. Good luck to you.
Social anxiety disorder. It was never more appropriately nailed than this.

You'll never guess my secret. Except perhaps the social anxiety disorder, that one is a bit harder to hide. But other than that, most people would never be able to tell that anything's wrong with me.

#614 so now you know.....it's not that i don't like you. i'm not stuck-up. i don't want to ignore you. it's just that my anxiety leaves me not knowing what to do or say and wanting to just melt into the floor to avoid any social interaction.
