Another gay teen committed suicide last week. This was in Mountain Green, Utah, just east of the small city of Ogden. If the the Ogden Standard-Examiner is any indication at all, it seems like a pretty awful place to grow up gay. The young man's name was Jack Denton Reese. He was 17. He died last Sunday. This 14 year old Iowa teen was bullied until he killed himself. His PINTEREST page,one section, titled "When I get married," features photos of vintage menswear, candle centerpieces and wedding cake toppers depicting two grooms. ALL school have rules against fighting why the break down here. And, people disagree that there should be special laws against discrimination for children at school stating that bullying policies protect them as well. Sometimes the "church" is the ultimate bully. 16-year old Kip Eliason, who committed suicide because of the stresses that resulted when his LDS bishop told him that masturbation was sinful. "Kip was not the kind of youngster you'd think would commit suicide, but when his church told him that he'd find guilt, depression and self-hate if he masturbated, he believed so. When it said he'd go to hell if he didn't stop, he believed that too. And when he was told that masturbation was a "building block of suicide," he took the church at its word."

Suzie Smith Kip was probably terrified and to afraid, embarrassed, humiliated to talk to his parents about it.
Suzie Smith This kind of happened to one of my son's. I have always given them an open door to talk about whatever they wanted or needed to with me (not always fun for me!).
Suzie Smith My son came home after a meeting with the bishop and talked to me about the things that bothered him, we worked it out together.
Coleen Uyehara Suzie, I think that I can finally post a comment. I agree that it happen in too many PLACES. However, in this case and in most it is what the "church" teaches or its doctrine and someone reinforcing it personally (it could even be the person who commits suicide). I am so happy that you have a different type of relationship with your son and bishop. Far too many don't...many kids don't open up either. I was one of those type...still am.

Sally Cobb who would do such a terrible thing to an old couple? this is terrible.
Jonah Mowry, a bullied middle school student, describes his mindset at the beginning of 8th grade. This is his comment "IM NOT GOING TO KILL MYSELF. I JUST NEED TO GET THIS OUT HERE" He has received a an outpouring of supportive comments. I sure hope that he receives the help that he needs and focuses on the positive comments.

How can we together as a nation, as parents, as humans, make bullying stop?
The Safe Space campaign provides tools for schools to create a place for LGBT youth to learn free from bullying and harassment. Need to read more to see if any info can translate to a library environment.

Megan Meier, 13 , hung herself in her closet due to Cyber bullying. A ex-friend and her mother created a fake myspace and pretended to be a guy name Josh, (which both grew close over a matter of weeks) and then out of the blue, started calling her a slut etc.

Coleen Uyehara In order for someone to do terrible things to others, they make them and oject rather than a person. Matthew was an "object" to them and not a person.
