Pinterest is an online pinboard.
Organize and share things you love.
This is Board I of II boards. This one is full, so I have created a new board. All new pins will be pinned on the second board, but there is still plenty to see on this board. I have strugged with an eating disorder for over 30 years. Once, it starts it does become an addiction and defense against feeling. I am currently working in therapy to address what has taken so much from my life. I have been in therapy for many years. I am also planning to apply to a doctoral program in Clinical Psychology...yes, even at my age!! Specific issues and diagnoses are on the boards for Depression & Suicide, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder and Feelings/Thoughts which are all on the boards near the top. Near the bottom of the page are boards that are specific to Self Injury, Eating Disorders and Sexual Abuse. Please take a look at the Mental Health Videos, at the top of the page, they are quite interesting and informative. Some of the videos only show the description and the play symbol, but if you click on the play symbol it will play the video. Also, check out the videos at the top of the page for information on other diagnoses and symptoms. Please check my board, Advocacy ~ Clothing & More for items that are available for purchase.

My comment to this pin I saw was "This is not funny to those friends and family who have lost love ones to eating disorders. 10-15% of the American population have eating disorders of all types. They have the highest mortality rate of any other psychological illness. Eating Disorders Kill and is not a matter to be even if it is about yourself

Eating disorders in Midlife. "Misinformation about eating disorders abounds. One of the most common myths is that eating disorders largely affect young, white girls. But EDs don’t discriminate. They affect people of any age, race, religion size, shape and sex." << EXCELLENT article.

Anorexia Nervosa is characterized by self-induced starvation and excessive weight loss. According to Dr. Thomas Insel, Director of National Institute of Mental Health, “Research tells us that Anorexia is a brain disease with severe metabolic effects on the entire body.” While Anorexia is the 3rd most common chronic illness among adolescents, eating disorders do not discriminate between age, gender, race or class: no one is immune.

It's normal to miss the eating disorder, but it's important to remember that it will kill you if you return to it.
