Tomato Paste Saver: Most recipes call for only a small portion of tomato paste -- you use a tablespoon or two, and the rest invariably goes to waste. To save the remainder: Carefully open both ends of the can with a can opener. Remove one metal end, and discard it. Leave the other in place. Wrap the entire can in plastic wrap, and freeze overnight. The next day, use the metal end to push the frozen paste out the open end. Discard can, tightly rewrap unused portion, and store in freezer up to 3 months, slicing off just as much as you need each time you cook. (found here: www.marthastewart...)

Add baking soda to the water when you hard boil eggs. It raises the pH of the water and makes them easier to peel by reducing the albumen's ability to stick to the shell. Nice tip!

Tracie Great idea! Thanks! I've also found that fresh eggs are more difficult to peel. I try to let them sit in the refrigerator for a few days before boiling. Seems to really help! I'll have to try this next time!
Autumn Garrod If you buy fresh eggs or have chickens, put them directly into ice water after cooking. They're super easy to peel then.

Take a spray bottle, fill it about 1/8th full with rubbing alcohol, add a drop of Dawn dishwashing soap, a few drops of scented oil (optional, but makes it smell so good), fill the rest of the way with water, shake together, and you're good to go! It makes your granite (or any countertop) shine and feel so smooth at a fraction of the price~I have loved it and use it on my appliances as well. \

Amy Junkins Are you familiar with FOE (fold-over elastic?) You could use it to bind the raw edges AND be the elastic. No inserting regular elastic in a casing.
