This is how Universal warns us journalists not to include spoilers in our reviews of "Battleship". Okay. So I won't. But still, us humans win. :)
Didja ever wonder how the press knows when to show up for film promotional "sightings"? Here's the kind of notification we get in advance...

My less than stellar review of "Dark Shadows". In a nutshell: walk out after the first hour. You'll thank me.

Finally digging in on my rewrite and update of the O'Reilly title "Learning Unix for Mac OS X". Love the cover, probably the cutest animal in the entire ORA library...

Just finished reading this early work from Higgins, set in Ireland during the worst of The Troubles. Interesting and compelling.

Did you know that many film composers are now also doing video game soundtracks? Good stuff. This one's from Brian Tyler, who also tracked Eagle Eye, Fast & Furious, Battle: LA, Timeline, and tons more...

Dave Taylor and for the record, I've never actually played CoD:MW3. Just enjoyed the soundtrack...
My rather snarky and sarcastic review of the mess that is "Wrath of the Titans", for your reading pleasure...

Just finished up an article on how to watch movies like "Hugo" through UltraViolet streaming. Will be published next week, stay tuned.
Got this screener in the mail today, "Strange Fruit" is a history of Apple Records and how the Beatles tried to revolutionize the record industry. Eager to watch it...

My review of "The Hunger Games". I enjoyed it, but think you need to have read the book to really understand what's going on...

Love the movie, really love the soundtrack to this gritty crime drama with an epic-good car chase scene on the Long Beach Freeway. Was surprised other critics find the soundtrack "cheesy and dated". I don't. Hmm....

Chris Knight One of my favorite soundtracks!
Psyched to be updating my popular O'Reilly title "Learning Unix for Mac OS X", initially for Lion (10.7) and then for Mountain Lion (10.8) when it shows up. Got a copy? I'd love to hear your ideas of what would be useful and interesting to add/tweak!

Still can't decide if I like "The River". Has potential, but seems sloppy and the reactions of the characters is often hard to fathom...

Dave Taylor Warning: this is an experimental Pinterest post and will actually take you to Best Buy. I use this pin to experiment with affiliate links and redirecting clicks. Just so you know...
Cheesy cult film, but just incredibly fun, I really like "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the Eighth Dimension". Lots of up-and-coming stars too, including Peter Weller, Jeff Goldblum and Ellen Barkin. After all, where-ever you go, there you are.

One of the most amazingly layered "caper" films ever, I adore this movie and have been known to step through the last few minutes frame-by-frame to ensure I caught all the subtle internal references...
You thought "The Matrix" was an examination of human reality? There's no film as moody, complex and eerie about what reality really might be constructed from. Just don't try to find your way to Shell Beach.
Another favorite film, with Harrison Ford our surrogate for trying to understand what it is to be human. Heck, just think about the tag line for the Replicants: "More human than human". A deep, profound film.

One of my all-time favorite movies ever. Genius. Amazing examination of what it is to be male and what it is to be human in a world of chaos. A must-watch.

One of my favorite TV series on currently: "The Walking Dead". First season was amazing, hopefully season two will improve (we've spent way too much time on the ranch at this point)
Still one of the best movies ever made, and surprisingly relevant to modern times as we continue to get forced into keeping up with the pace of technological innovation. The sheer joy of Gene Kelly's title dance, though, that's what's so amazingly wonderful about this film. Love it.

Love the "Lord of the Rings" series, even if it's a bit confusing at time who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. Visually astonishing throughout.

Just got my press invite for the 3D screening of "John Carter of Mars". Psyched. Hope it's as good as the previews suggest, haven't seen a good sci-fi epic in a while...
Just catching up on the BBC series "Sherlock" and it's brilliant. Well worth your time - and it's available on Netflix streaming...

Aimee Giese We loved it!
"The Artist", I voted for it as best film of 2011. It's that good. Oh, and it's _not_ a silent film. You'll have to watch the film to see what I mean. Superb.

My favorite book. Complex, convoluted, but an amazing story revolving around what happens if what we imagine really is what's going on around us and we're just a bit paranoid about the Illuminati and other conspiratorial groups?

For the first 25 pages this made no sense to me, then I understood where Moore was going and thought it was amazing. It's all about world politics, not superheroes. And it's very, very good.

Aimee Giese I still have my copy from college!
I've loved the Tintin series since I could first read, and was a huge fan of the recent Spielberg/Jackson film too. Best. Graphic. Novels. Ever.

Teresa Valdez Klein BILLIONS OF BLUE BLISTERING BARNACLES AND A THUNDERING TYPHOON!!!!
Dave Taylor Who would think that one of the most memorable characters from the Tintin series would be an alcoholic sea captain? :-)
Of the books I've written, this has the best title, no question about it.
Not many people realize it, but I'm a big fan of graphic novels. My latest kick are the Blake & Mortimer series. Fun and surprising mysteries.

Just finished reading this. Not bad, but not the best Russian novel I've read and it was ultimately hard to believe the narrative sequence...
Fetching pins…
Chris Evans That's a bummer Dave! I recently met Guy Pearce and he was a really nice guy...
