First day project: Friend Tree. Everyone puts their thumb print on the tree then teacher later frames it and hangs it as a reminder that we are all friends. I could even use it at open house and let the parents join us since we're all a team.

During the month of February, they get to write nice notes to each other {when they finish their work}. At the end of the day, when we pass the notes out, they are so touched at the nice things their classmates say about them. This activity will definitely build classroom unity among your students.

Great idea: About once a month I choose a student to receive the "positive postcard". I actually mail a postcard to their house! They love receiving mail from their teacher. Their parents especially love it...it's sure nice to know that their child is succeeding.
