In 1949, LIFE photographer Gjon Mili visited Picasso in Vallauris, France. He showed the painter some photographs of ice skaters with tiny lights affixed to their skates jumping in the dark. Picasso was immediately inspired by the way the skaters painted each image with the light of their skates. With flashlight in hand, the artist took to painting the room with light. These momentary masterpieces and incredible photos were the result.
Ahhh oui aussi. (expo vue avec N., ho ce bonheur!)

Eireann Lorsung yes. me too. i'm so glad i appreciated his work while he was living...i always feel sad finding someone after they've died, only to find out they lived while i did and i didn't appreciate them.
Delphine Doreau I'm glad I had a chance to discover him while visiting Beaubourg Museum in 1988. I remember I wasn't into modern art at that time, but after the exhibit I was into his art! I'm specially sad because the older he got, the better he painted, and I was eager to see more.
Eireann Lorsung ah yeah! i felt the same way! and i felt like as i got older my relation to his work kept getting deeper and more involved. i didn't imagine him dying because i didn't imagine an end to that developing relationship.
