The Bassett Road townhouse at one point was divided into four units. Paul+O Architects, a London-based firm, designed this renovation to bring the once divided residence back to a single dwelling home. Due to the home’s historic location, the Victorian facade remained while much of the remodeling took place in the back of the house.

The Palabritas Beach House by the Peruvian firm Metropolis focuses on ocean views with a modern, yet ’60s-inspired aesthetic. While the house’s main color is white, red accents are seen everywhere making a bold statement in contrast.

In just 10 short days, the SIP Panel House was constructed in Santo Domingo, Chile. Designed by architects Alejandro Soffia and Gabriel Rudolphy and using structural insulated panels (SIP), the house was built with almost no waste. The project used two types of panels to make up the house, including 71 wall panels and 40 split-level panels.

Built overlooking a lake in Finland, this Micro Cabin, nicknamed “Nido,” was designed and built by Robin Falck to enjoy once out of the military. It took a while to design and Falck consulted with a couple of architects to get everything right, but the results are phenomenal.

Located in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County in Manhattan Beach, California, the smartly-designed house was able to fit everything the client wanted and needed, all while reflecting their love of southeast Asia.

The Bethesda, Maryland NaCl House has a Tetris-like white exterior that resembles a natural formation of mineral rock salt, hence its name. You remember the periodic table, right? NaCl is the chemical formula for rock salt. Designed by David Jameson Architect Inc., the house isn’t your typically laid out home that’s horizontally stacked.

The Koby Cottage was designed by the Brooklyn-based Garrison Architects as a weekend retreat for families visiting their teens at the non-profit Starr Commonwealth in Albion, Michigan. It’s an 1100-square-foot prefab that consists of two modules that intersect with a central dining area.

A new home was designed by Pb Elemental on the lot, located in the Leschi neighborhood of Seattle. Pb Elemental had the challenge to design a three-bedroom home that was not only modern and perfect for a young family, but within a small budget.

Located in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica, Casa Mecano is a residence designed by Robles Arquitectos that’s situated on a hilltop for natural ventilation and spectacular views. Seeing that it’s built in a tropical environment with lots of sunlight and rain, it was important to incorporate ways to control the direct rays with the use of a controllable sail.

And that’s what architect Doris Kim Sung, assistant professor of architecture at the USC School of Architecture, is currently doing with her “Bloom” 20-foot tall undulating installation in Silver Lake, Los Angeles made from 14,000 tiny sheets of metal that opens and closes with the sun.

Twin Megaphones is a single-family residence located in the center of Tokyo. Designed by the Japanese firm Atelier Tekuto, the house is situated on a rectangular-shaped lot that has an incline. To maximize natural daylight and ventilation throughout, the house is made up of two separate trapezoid-shaped volumes that are connected by a bridge.
