April’s Designer Desktop is a Chinese proverb that artist Rafa Jenn has illustrated and interpreted as “A bird [An artist] doesn’t sing [create] because it has an answer, it sings [creates] because it [he/she] has a song.”

In the design she incorporated decorative designed typography and imagery inspired by Chanel iconography, but with a modernized illustrated twist.

July 2010: This installment of Design Milk’s Designer Desktops monthly desktop wallpaper series was inspired by a quote from William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It.” It is kind of hard to read in the image above, so here it the quote: “…only in the world I fill up a place, which may be better supplied when I have made it empty.”

October 2010: This one was created by our contributor and talented designer Crystal Chou. I’m not sure all the quotes out there attributed to Karl Lagerfeld ever passed from his lips, but regardless this is a good one.

December 2010: The last Designer Desktop wallpaper of 2010 comes from designer, illustrator and lover of type Annica Lydenberg. I’ve seen this Picasso quote said in a variety of ways, but I like this iteration best: “Every act of construction is an act of destruction.” Plus it made for one heck of an awesome wallpaper design!

June 2011: The Designer Desktop for June is a bit of a departure from what we’ve had in the past. But, I’m sure you will love it nonetheless. Designed by Orlando artist, designer and blogger Jason Dean of The Best Part, I’m sure many of you in your 20s-40s will remember how popular this song by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock was (and still is). Whenever I hear it on the radio, I always crank it up and sing along.
