Rhyming words or word families... Great for practice for final consonant deletion.
Skittles Science Experiment: Using a paper bowl, put in enough water so that the skittles are covered with a little extra above them. Put in 3 skittles (all except yellow work best) and watch what happens! The 'S' even floats to the top! I then had the kids draw and color what they saw happen. You can also use this as a graphing project where the children count how many of each color is in their bags, and graph the colors onto a chart. Then... enjoy eating the skittles!! :)
Science lesson! Draw planets and sun in crayons, paint over with black watercolor. Solar System :)
1/4" Mt Dew in bottle, add tiny bit of baking soda and 3 capfuls of hydrogen peroxide. Shake and it glows. Pour on sidewalk to "paint"...Who knew!?

Have the students make their writing "more colorful" by using paint strips. Write a boring adjective at the bottom of the paint strip on the most boring color. Give each student a paint strip and they can use a thesaurus or a word wall to think of "more colorful" words for their strip. Put the best word on the brightest part of the strip. Hang all of their strips on the door and they can use those words to help "make their writing colorful!"
