Garments I would like to replicate
Harper's Bazaar January 1957 I'm not crazy about the dots but I'm loving the v-neckline and the welt pockets. I'd probably make them faux pockets so they wouldn't stick out. And I love that the bodice has a princess seam going to the shoulder for shaping. So much easier to sew than the ones going into the armhole.
The dress itself is pretty shapeless and matronly looking (perhaps because she is sitting) but if you look at her knee, you will see that the dress is actually sheer with a lining. I've been trying to figure out how to use a sheer and have it be age appropriate, too (I'm in my early 50s). The graphic print is a perfect solution.
This is Kathy Warnock's laundry bag that her grandmother made. Isn't it adorable?
I'm loving the handbag. The hat intrigues me, though.

I'm just taking a guess that this isn't a career dress... #vintagecouture
I love the horizontal pleating under the bust and the vertical soft pleating above the bust that fades into a kimono sleeve. Note the seam down the top of the sleeve that enables a more tailored look. Side bust darts, princess seaming.

This is such a classic and easy to replicate look --a basic princess sheath--but it's the finishing details that make it pop out--the contrast piping on the collar and the fold up sleeves. #sewing #fashiondesign
