more Gavin Worth inspiration "The Goldfish" - Acrylic on cardboard, 18"x28" I love experimenting with common materials. I was cutting cardboard for a project one day when I noticed the inherent layers and almost sculptural depth inside cardboard. These are generally all made with a single piece of cardboard.

Influenced by light coming through from behind when viewing slides on a light box, Peter Bynum realized how painting has been restricted to light only coming at the canvas from the front. Bynum now uses glass as his canvas, following stints with Mylar and Plexiglass, often in multiples where more light can be trapped between layers. The viewer can even use a remote control dimmer to change the level of lighting in some of these illuminated paintings.

Chinese artist Xia Xiao Wan has pushed beyond the boundaries of the visual arts by turning flat artwork into three dimensional form. The holographic effect is achieved by using multiple layers of clear glass. Each sheet of glass is decorated separately, then put together on floor racks. With a 360 degree viewing angle, every viewpoint offers a unique and personal experience otherwise unavailable with 2D art.
