"Prevention: The Condom. For some reason I don’t exactly feel like I should be the one writing a message about preventing the transmission of HIV, after all I am positive. Yet, I can’t help wonder what if I had been better educated on how to best reduce the risk of acquiring not only HIV but a host of other sexually transmitted diseases. The operative key word being: education. There are three key points in this discussion I want to share: condoms, needles, and homophobia."

Timothy Ray Brown was diagnosed with HIV in 1995, but is now the first to have the virus completely eliminated from his body
Lea writes: “I am an evolutionary biology graduate student working with some of the world’s earliest known HIV samples, trying to clarify the early evolutionary history of the virus. I was inspired by an elegant circle tree phylogeny my PI put together for a publication submission and I decided I had finally found something I connected with enough to get permanently put on my body.”

"Remus Lupin was supposed to be on the H.I.V metaphor. It was someone who had been infected young, who suffered stigma, who had a fear of infecting others, who was terrified he would pass on his condition to his son. And it was a way of examining prejudice, unwarranted prejudice towards a group of people. And also, examining why people might become embittered when they're treated that unfairly." - J.K. Rowling.
