"The DIWire Bender is a rapid prototype machine that bends metal wire to produce 2D or 3D shapes. Wire unwinds from a spool, passes through a series of wheels that straighten it, and then feeds through the bending head, which moves around in 3 dimensions to create the desired bends and curves. Vector files, text files of commands (e.g., feed 50 mm, bend 90° to right) provide DIWire’s instructions. It’s essentially a 3D printer that describes lines instead of volumes."

Jumper Wires – 40 x 3″ (75mm); handy as they are, I'm just pinning this because I think it would make a great Board cover :)

This experiment of Project RE explores 3D printing as a DIY tool for upcycling. Customized lids are created using low cost 3D printing. They are then clipped or screwed onto standard jars, tin cans and bottles to create new and personal objects. In the first collection 14 objects were made : a watering can, an hour glass, a long pasta container, a bird house, a bird feeder, a mug, a rain catcher, a maple syrup bottle, a piggy bank, a orange juicer, a snow globe, a paint brush cleaner, a dumbbell

Thingiverse user Brian Beebe designed an Electro Wire Stripper, a wire stripper that indicates when you’ve cut through the insulation. As soon as each blade comes into contact with the wire, it closes the circuit to turn on the LED, letting you know you’re ready to strip. The design files are available for download and 3D printing, you supply the plastic and components. How well does it work? According to Brian, it’s one of the best wire strippers he’s ever used. Katie Hatch congratulations! i think u r the only person on pinterest with razor blades on their diy page!

Geoff Dudgeon @Katie Hatch having just spent the last two weekends scraping, masking, and taping window frame, I think razor blades should be in every DIY-er's kit :)

Katie Hatch @Geoff Dudgeonyay! painting is soooo much fun. not tedious at all. u r like the edward scissor hands of pinterst. will topiary hedges be a new moodboard soon?

Profile picture of Geoff Dudgeon

Geoff Dudgeon Oh, I just meant that razor blades were super helpful for scraping the old paint, and making precise masking lines before re-painting!

Roland’s New CNC Hobby Mill: "Superficially, it looks kind of like a Prusa Mendel with a rotary cutting tool in place of the extruder. The top of the “A frame” actually folds over so the substrate (itself taped to a spoil board) can be taped to the work platform. The product is not yet available in the US, but launched in Japan in early October."

3D printed zoetrope. Extra geek cred for hooking up a rotary encoder to LEDs so that they flash at the correct interval no matter how fast or slow you spin the wheel. Very creepy/awesome.

PID Controller: Thinking about hacking together a general purpose PID rig to control a deep fryer/sous vide/etc. $29

Steven McGaughey hey @Geoff Dudgeon let me know how this works out if you get it. I've been mulling over the same idea.

I'm interested in taking on a couple recipes that require deep-frying but want to find a way to precisely control the temperature. One approach might be to hook up a PID controller to a hotplate/cheap electric deepfryer, and to use a probe thermometer. How about this one? "The world's first completely open source PID controller! Completely open source from the hardware design, firmware & software implementation, and enclosure design!"

Full color laser TV: "Back in 2001, [Helmar] made an awesome monochrome video display out of a red laser pointer and a spinning 18-sided mirror. Blue and green lasers are much less expensive than they were a decade ago, so [Helmar] decided to go full color with his laser projector. "

"A Spanish craftsman named Patelo skillfully designed and fabricated this tiny working V-12 motor from stock stainless steel, aluminum, and bronze for his grandchildren. It took more than 1200 hours of work. Not counting the 222 screws, he machined all 261 pieces himself. The engine operates via compressed-air injection, has 12cm3 total displacement, 11.3mm cylinder heads, and a 10mm stroke on each piston." via Make
