ariana shankasaurus this is nice and convenient but for those of us who have newer laptops..we already have a slot for an SD card. still though, i wouldn't mind having one.

Nikon P7000: Finally, Nikon ups their game with a decent full-featured compact camera (and in the process totally rips off Canon's G12). Maybe now I'll break my 3-month shooting dry spell!

Photoflex White Lined Umbrella. These things are durable and awesome.

Coco Ring Flash: I finally picked up this cheap knock-off of the Rayflash to help with some close-up/product work I'm doing. We'll see how it goes.

Snacks: Never stop shooting because you're hungry. Keep a snack in every camera bag you own.

Music when you're shooting: Never give up on a shot because you're too bored to wait around.

Hoodman Loupe: I finally broke down and bought this magical device -- now I can see my screen in direct sunlight. Let the chimping begin!

Beth Monson How do you like it? I do a lot of beach shooting & this could be wonderful. I'm a Chimper, too. :)

Profile picture of Geoff Dudgeon

Geoff Dudgeon @Beth -- It's actually pretty good! I don't always carry it around, but it's great for outdoor/sunny portraits.

Giotto Q-Ball Blower: Great for cleaning your sensor and lenses. Sensor dust remains hidden when you shoot wide open, but when you get down to small apertures (like I did for the Cherry Blossom festival), you'll be surprised at what you see!

Think Tank Digital Holster 40: This is a great, compact way of protecting your camera when you don't want to lug a full camera bag. It'll hold a pro slr, or a smaller slur with a grip. Best of all the bottom extends to accommodate a 70-200 f/2.8.

Holga 120N Medium Format Fixed Focus Camera: My Holga is still sitting in its box, and the MF film I bought with it is still sitting in my fridge. Maybe it's time to give it a shot.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2: Lightroom rocks my socks. Best tool ever for managing and editing photos.

Elinchrom 33-Inch Silver Umbrella: Silver umbrellas throw slightly harder light than a shoot-through, making them a bit more efficient. This guy isn't a double-fold, so it's slightly less portable but way more durable than my other umbrella.

Jane Wang Only if it can double as a rain umbrella.

Zeiss Pre-Moistened Lens Cleaning Cloths: These individually wrapped moistened lens cloths aren't what you'd call environmentally friendly, but they work well and you can throw a few in each camera bag/jacket pocket/whatever else you think you might have around you when you're shooting, and always have one when you need it.

Manfrotto 420NSB 3-Section Combi-Boom Stand: Good for getting light up and over your subject. This feels a bit sturdier than the cheetah boom looks.

Lowepro Stealth Reporter D200 AW Camera Bag: I have an older version of this bag that I bought in college. It's a great size for one camera, a flash, and a couple small lenses. Cut the labels off and it doesn't draw too much attention.

HP Universal Coated Paper (60-Inches x 150-Feet roll): It turns out that plotter paper is way cheaper than seamless backdrop paper!

Thinktank Airport Antidoteā„¢ V2.0 Backpack: Not what you'd call stylish, but made for airline travel (I really like the idea of an integrated cable lock!). Edit: I just bought this big, clunky beast and I love it.

The is a pretty versatile background shade -- you can color it by gel-ing your strobes, and use power to adjust its brightness. Super-handy.

It's good to keep a bunch of these in your camera bag.

Awesome NiMH batteries with no memory and quick recycle time in flashes.

These handy velcro straps help you attach accessories to your strobes.

Handy velcro gels for changing the color of your strobes

Decent tripod legs. They're pretty heavy but pretty sturdy too. The center post does funky stuff I never use.

A totally decent ball head (since replaced by the 496RC2). Not great, not bad.

Finally broke down and got one. The 900 has a better UI than my SB-600s' and it can control other flashes via CLS.

Controls (restricts) light spread from a strobe.

Not as portable as a Nano Stand, but way more portable.

Everyone needs gaffer's tape!

Nice, durable way of color correcting your strobes. Not as flimsy as gels.

Great for mounting your camera just about anywhere.

Great little light stand

Because it's nice to get your flash off the camera, and this is sometimes easier to manage for a quick shot than going wireless.

Awesome camera + laptop bag. Even accommodates a 70-200 f/2.8 mounted on a pro body (or an slr with a battery grip).

You should really always have a flashlight on you. It also helps your autofocus work when shooting in the dark.

Patty Plucker You will need this when you get to the dark side : )))

Super cheap, normal lens.

Pretty wide, pretty fast, pretty cheap.

I adore this lens. It's cheap, plastic, wide and wonderful. Until you drop it and it snaps in half. Like mine did.

1 like 3 repins

It's heavy, and has since been replaced by a newer model, but I love my 70-200.

Makes your camera big, bulky, and a dream to handle. It can take AA's (for losing your charger when you travel). Also ups the D700's frame-rate to 8 fps.

Tracy McKithern We just ordered this one for me!

Nikon D700: I absolutely adore this camera. It's great at high ISOs and built like a rock (I've tested...).

Marc Hunter when it is out of your hand and you're using another camera...I also have the D90, you will notice an immediate difference. I feel so much more confident in teh results from this camera.

Tim Parsley What I want, when I can afford it --- which will be sometime after the D900 comes out.
