Betty Skelton, 'Fastest Woman on Earth', started taking flying lessons at the age of 10, was the first woman to drive an Indy car, she broke transcontinental speed records, was nicknamed "7 1/2" in 1959 by the Mercury Seven astronauts after passing the same rigorous training they underwent, and was inducted to no fewer than 11 halls of fame, including the National Aviation Hall of Fame and the Motorsports Hall of Fame. She drove a red Corvette until her death in August 2011.
