Only the third vintage bottled under their own label, the wine delivers big time: Bosinakis winery from Mantinia, Peloponnese. Grape variety is the indigenous Moschofilero, the vineyards have an altitude of 650 metres/2150 feet. This is a unique expression of the variety: Great aromas with heaps of lime, chewy texture, great acidity, smooth and elegant with a strong finish. 12% alcohol. Certainly a winery to watch out for.

One of the finest Greek red wines: Domaine Economou from Sitia in Crete. The Sitia 2000 is the current release, a blend of two indigenious varieties, 80% Liatiko and 20% Mandilaria. Prunes, wild herbs and sweet spices. Noticeable smooth tannins. Pure elegance and finesse with a strong focus on the primary fruit. Top New York Sommelier Michael Madrigale is a huge fan.

Karelas Winery from Patras, Peloponnese, founded in 1936. A 100% varietal wine from the native Mavrodaphne grape, produced as a naturally sweet wine. This winery produces very high quality Mavrodaphne wines - highly recommended! Aromas of raisin, caramelized fruit, hints of marzipan and almonds.Lively acidity that makes this anything but sticky.

Pin this and I will select a random person to whom I'll ship a bottle, worldwide. Kir Yianni winery from Naoussa. Grape variety is the indigenous Xinomavro, the most intruiging of all the red grape varieties from Greece. Think of Xinomavro as the Angelina Jolie of Greek wine: An almost uncanny ability to draw in your senses, a lot of personality, wild in youth, ageing gracefully while gaining complexity. Apart from red fruit, get seduced by sun-dried tomoato and black olives aromas.

Bill Warry I generally enjoy both Xinomavro and the other main inigenous red Greek Grape varietal, Agiorgitiko

Markus Stolz Not duplicate at all, love that Agiorgitiko and Xinomavro express opposite characteristics. A crowd pleaser (very important) and a truly unique variety that has the potential to claim the top spot in a niche market. Both have their place, rightfully so.

Love this label! Santor Wines, from the Peloponnese. Grape variety is the indigenous and rare Santameriana, which nearly became lost, but has been revived just a few years ago. This wine is the only 100% Santameriana in the world. Intense flavours of pears, peaches, honey, white flowers. Medium bodied with a creamy texture, explosive mid-palate and a strong finish. Think Muscat or Gewürtztraminer.Organic farming.

Domaine Zafeirakis from Tyrnavos, a young wine maker who is receiving a lot of praise. Grape variety is the indigenous Malagousia, which was rescued in the 1970ies and has since been planted in many Greek wine regions. It has become one of the most important indigenous grape varieties of Greece. Citrus fruit, lime and green pepper, moderate alcohol and an unexpected acidity. The wine stays on its lees for a minimum of 60 days. Perfect with Vietnamese or Chinese cuisine.

Antonopoulos Vineyards from Achaia, Peleponnese. Grape variety is the indigenous Vertzami, which is now thought to have originated from the island of Lefkada. 100% varietal wines are rare, but this one is a real treat. The grapes are sourced from vineyards in Lefkada that have an altitude of 1000 feet. Cassis, black berries and truffles. Bold and rich on the palate, with gentle tannins, breathtaking harmony. Needs rich food.

Viviane Bauquet Farre Indeed Markus - feeling so grateful for that!

The winemaker Palivos from Nemea, Peleponnese, produces Agiorgitiko in different styles. Agiorgitiko is one of the most important Greek red varieties. This is unoaked and has a real delicious factor to it, lots of bright cherry elements. I always think of Agiorgitiko as the Jennifer Aniston of Greek wine: Nearly everyone likes her, easy to hang out with, nice personality, a crowd pleaser. This wine is great with slightly spicy cuisine like Vietnamese food.

Gaia Wines, an icon in two of the finest Greek wine regions, Nemea in the Peleponnese and the island of Santorini, where this wine is made. The indigenous Assyrtiko grapes come form ungrafted vines that are 80 years old, yields are below 26hl/ha. Santorini is one of the hottest wine growing areas in the world, the soils are a mixture of volcanic ash and pumice. Lemon and seasalt, remarkable minerality. Moutwatering acidity, yet a bone-dry wine. Will age well. Screams for food.

Tetramythos, a fully certified organic grower. Their vineyards are amongst the highest in Greece, and are located on steep slopes at Mount Helmos in Aigiala, Peleponnese, at an altitude of up to 3300 feet. This wine combines the international Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with the local Black of Kalavryta grape, which is only found in this small area. This intriguing combination works very well. Forest fruit, chocolate, burned earth. Elegant texture with soft tannins, explosive fruit.

From the Gentilini winery, island of Cephalonia. Grape variety is the indigenous Robola, in this case from ungrafted vines that were planted in 1956 from a single vineyard at 2500 feet above sea level. Only 2500 bottles were produced. Ripe mango and banana, citrus fruits and very mineralic. Explosive on the palate, oppolent structur with crisp acidity, very balanced. Bring the food!
