****The Cove - Very powerful documentary about the slaughter of dolphins and related issues. It was a good film because it no only brought awareness to the problem by not only making a plea towards ones sense of humanity and compassion but of self-interest. It was also made like a thriller which made it exciting to watch. 4 out of 5 stars
****Gattaca - I really loved this movie. Superb art direction, great acting, compelling subject. Incidentally, the title is based on the four letters that make up the components of DNA (GATC). 4 out of 5 stars
*****Exit Through The Gift Shop. WIthout setting out to do so, takes a good hard look at the business and meaning of contemporary art in our time. Also hilarious. 5 out 5 stars.

*****Children of Men - One of my all time favorites. Such a thoughtful and realistic vision of a dystopic future, yet full of hope and redemption. 5 out of 5 stars

** Dragonslayer - An indie film that won the 2011 SXSW Grand Jury Prize. An intimate vérité portrait of the life and times of Josh “Skreech” Sandoval, a 23-year-old skate legend from the stagnant suburbs of Fullerton, California. It left me flat. I didn't feel all that much empathy or concern for the protagonist, beyond 'jeez, what a shame...' I also didn't feel that the film did enough to explain the social and environmental context of it's characters. 2 out of 5 stars.
** Drive - I didn't love this like I thought I would. Yes Ryan Gosling is cute and cool, but it felt like a lot of style and no substance. I wanted more story, and frankly, more action. The violence felt gratuitous. The casting of Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman was brilliant, though. I give it 2 out 5 stars.
