Emily Gibb what are straw packs?

Who knew? Storing onions for winter, can store for 8 months in pantyhose. Tie a knot between onions and you can then clip the knot as you need an onion.

Cool the kids off with a homemade sprinkler. Take a 2 liter soda bottle, poke holes in it. Attach to a garden hose via a male to male adapter that cost less than $5 at Lowes. Toss over a tree branch and let hang. You can adjust how the water sprinkles by adjusting the water flow. When the bottle gets stupid, just switch it out with another bottle, no additional cost!

growing citrus indoors- is this possible?!

Profile picture of Sylvia Borgo

Sylvia Borgo I would love to THINK it is possible - but my parents said that they didn't think so, I just asked them today. My dad has a very good green thumb

Molly i've had indoor citrus trees before, but they are hard to get to bear fruit.

Emily Southerland Interesting! The article this links to make it sound possible, but like a LOT of work. Not sure its would be worth it.

Carrie Koepke I have a meyer lemon and a kumquat . . . I've had them for less tahn one year and last year had 6 kumquats! I moved the lemon out to the front porch and it has doubled in size.

Now why didn't I think of this?!?! Cover your refrigerator shelf with Saran's Press and Seal Wrap....then when it gets dirty you just peel it off and apply a new piece!! This is genius.

Storing fabric in a hanging filing box. Would be easy to sort by project, color, etc. and keeps everything organized!

Add baking soda to the water when you hard boil eggs. It raises the pH of the water and makes them easier to peel by reducing the albumen's ability to stick to the shell. Nice tip!

Smart Idea: Make large batches of soup then freeze in silicone muffin molds. Pop 'em out and freeze. Just reheat 2-3 pucks in a mug for a quick dinner. Perfect for the upcoming fall/winter season!

Avocado for Butter This may sound a little adventurous, but you won’t taste the difference: Switch out half of the butter in a cookie recipe for mashed avocado. This simple change will reduce fat content by 40% and cut the number of calories by nearly as much. You’ll still get the creaminess of butter and the fatty taste, but this substitution knocks out some of the saturated fat in favor of the belly-flattening monounsaturated kind. Sure your cookies might have a green tinge, but they should also be chewier and softer.
