Dani Fuenzalida Maybe you should read more about Felix Gonzalez-Torres work, and the relation that he establish with the public.
Tiffany Miller Katie he was Gay and he and his partner had AID so his art is really shown through is work. Once you know his life story it will make sense cause i thought the same thing before i read about him!
Katie Chase I just read his bio and saw some other pieces. Not a fan, regardless of his sexual preferences or AIDs status; I dont believe either of those things make you a better artist. Some ideas he had were interesting but I don't see how he is an amazing visionary. But, as a photographer, I know that art is in the eye of the beholder, and what I see as a pile of paper or tangled lights, some see as beautiful and expressive. I'm not gay/AIDs bashing, I'm not art bashing. I just don't get his art. That is all.
Amber Baiguerra It's conceptual. You hope to win over a few people but the fact is many will never understand and truly appreciate conceptual art. You need to understand the artists motives. Sometimes you need to 'experience' conceptual art in person, really absorb it.
Dani Fuenzalida Maybe it does have to do with his AID condition and everything, or maybe it doesn't. Every artist has a personal life, and most of the time (or maybe, all of the time), the personal life is part of their art. It just get right through it. Even if it's very "out there", for everyone to see, or in other cases is just beneath the surface, eitherway, the poetic of Gonzalez-Torres work has to do with the space, the spectator, and possibly, with his own history. The interaction, the relation between people, etc... THAT'S the work. Not the physical and materical object: the candies, the light bulbs, the "pile of paper", that are there for the spectator to see. Those subtleties, in some of us, are a mayor difference, are signs for us, so that we get and enter in this dialogue with others, with the space, with our selfs. And for other, they just pass unnoticed. As an artist, that also works with photography, I totally support the idea of J. Beuys that considers "life as art, and art as life", and that are completely interconnected. And that the works (of art) are not only a ...
