2/16/12 - Aseries of attacks on refugees, aid workers, and Kenyan police has dramatically changed Dadaab refugee camp, which has existed as a camp for over 20 years. Many believe that these attacks are linked to Al Shabab (perhaps in retaliation for Kenya’s recent military incursion into southern Somalia) but the details are not entirely clear.
2/11/12 - The United Nation Security Council last week released details on the strength and command structure of the expanded Amisom peacekeeping force.
11/2/2011 - A US drone attack has killed 20 civilians and injured 60 others in southern Somalia, Press TV reports.
By February 2009, al-Shabaab controlled most of southern Somalia, including the capital of Mogadishu, as depicted in this map.
