Emma Busk What I meant to say is that art is so much more than just the visual aspect of it. If you don't recognize this you will miss out on so much of the last 100 yrs of art. It is one thing to say that you don't like something visually and another to label something "Not art". I agree that art is storytelling but weather it's beautiful or not has nothing to do with it. If you see something (art) that you find repelling, it's probably the best piece of art you've seen in a long time, since it made you think and question things. THAT is what art is about.
Staci Goodrich Well put Emma I do believe you have a very good point. I would have to say that I do not find this piece repelling. Just that, to me, like with the pissoir.., some have said, I can do this that I know is my left over mixing tray and I'll bet it will sell. That is just an example, not intended for anyone specific. I am the first to appreciate a piece that is thought provoking. This piece actually caught me thinking, "Someone is playing a joke". That said to each his own, art is truly in the eye of the beholder. Furthermore as you said if something truly is repelling it is possible that it is a great piece, for me. Emma are you an artist and if so what is your preferred medium. I would love to see some of your pieces and perhaps correspond with you. I could show you some of my stuff. I trust that I will get honest feedback from you. Thanks for your input.
