We underestimate the intelligence (and ability to feel emotions) of animals...Watch these elephants mourn over a fallen friend. Touching.

Soni McCrummen i love the good in life.
Sonja Rigdon My dream is to live to see the day that No Elephant will wear chains in circus's or zoos. ! To learn more about the wonderful people that run this Ellie Orphanage, and rescue and release these magnificent animals, check out http://www.sheldrickwi... and their FB page at http://www.facebook.co...
Rhonda Doyle I loved the documentary I saw with my daughters, similar and moving.
Raenette Palmer The Detroit Zoo is the only zoo in the nation to voluntarily give up their elephants to a large preserve - so that they would be able to be free to roam and not get arthritis.
Nikki is brilliant! When an elephant mother is allowed to give birth naturally it is truly miraculous. Video from an elephant sanctuary. (watch what happens when her baby isn't breathing)

Kristyan Williams Notice how Nikki opens her mouth wide as the baby is coming down. Animals know! The pelvic floor is nervously connected to the mouth and jaw- it's no different in humans. Brilliant! Reminds me so much of my home water birth. My baby wasn't breathing either after a gentle, warm birth but nature took course and we massaged her into breathing. So amazing to watch an elephant mama know what she's doing! Thank you for sharing!
Claudia McDonald Life is amazing....
Tana Breault Wow...That was amazing. They are such intelligent animals. Thank you for sharing this.
Denise Graham Amazing
FeeFee,RN Kristyan- Wow! Couldn't even imagine....Congrats on your baby (don't know how long ago). Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Fee

Amy Bagadonuts Good for u. I'm anti-circus to the max. This is sickening.
Lauren M I'm anti-circus as well.
Ashton Robillard i wish i never watched that ... it broke my heart :(
Poppy Love i don't like zoos either. why should humans steal animals from their home and stick them in a cage to be stared at? it's just not right.
Rachel Mullins thank you for posting this- this is a good reminder for people
Feld Entertainment, the parent company of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, must now pay the largest settlement of its kind in U.S. history―$270,000―for alleged violations of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) dating from the present back to 2007. Way to go Peta!

Casey Nelson Fee, you're awesome! These others are just ignorant and rude. :) Pin away!! ♥
Carol Bennett I kind of agree that I would prefer that Pinterest stay away from controversy and some of the disgusting images I've seen the past few days. Awwww - the poor elephant.... and the dogs, cats, dolphins, whales, trees - whatever. I'd rather not see them here. I would also rather not see another fat chick with several hundred comments "I'm sorry, but this is not healthy." FU. And the ugly images like that guy in a onesie leotard that just did not fit. You know the one. And then we have to see it on the same scroll another 50 times? Please people - don't repin some of this stuff. Once is more than enough.
Suzanne Tomlinson FeeFee, continue posting whatever you want! That's the cool thing about pinterest....you post what you want! People, if you don't like it, DON'T LOOK! We each use Pinterest for our own reasons. How dare YOU try to tell her what not to post, or comment on her image. You're using negative energy to complain about it, how "DARK". It's her board. Back to the topic at hand, a photo that obviously moved FeeFee, this is exactly why I don't go to the circus. Thanks for sharing.
Casey Nelson Suzanne... AMEN!!! I keep coming back to this to make sure Fee and her supporters HAVE the last word! Go away everyone else!!!!
Rebecca Crawford I thought that was the whole point of Pinterst. To create your own boards of whatever inspires you, whatever you feel passionate about, what you like and all that jazz. Whenever I look at another pinners board, I feel that I am getting to know them, And I must say, that FeeFees boards are some of my favourite. I believe that she is the type of person that I would be friends with in real life. It's easy enough to ignore the stuff you don't care for. And if a poster leans too much toward things you disagree with, simply stop following them. I've managed to find Pinterest very fun and a happy place, even though it is littered with a bunch of crap that I personally don't go for.
omg! kisses

Leisha Camden These precious little ones are half siblings Baylor and Tupelo in Houston Zoo. :-)
Elephant calves are very entertaining and a joy to spend time with. You never quite know what they are going to do next. I could pretend I know what this one is doing but I have no idea. But whatever it is it is very endearing.

Leah Moore have you spent time with elephants? i SOOO want to!
FeeFee,RN no, sorry the caption was from the photographer. i do love them though! :)
Cynthia named them Eclipse and Equinox and they are both still alive today and aged 26. In contrast to the scarcity of twins in Amboseli, in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National park in Uganda, when the population was almost wiped out by heavy poaching during the 1980’s, the incidence of twins was very high. Calves like these two in the same family will spend a great of time together and will actively seek each other out to play.

Elephants frequently rest during the course of the day. Calves take advantage of these down times to play. Here the older relative has deliberately lain down to encourage the calves to play. It is one of the most endearing scenes and only happens when the elephants are totally relaxed as they are in Kenya’s Amboseli National park.

Each elephant has different sized tusks and so each elephant also has slightly different trunk resting positions.

Qalypso of the QB family rests in the mid-day heat on one of Amboseli’s flat alkaline pans. It always strikes me as odd when the elephants elect to sleep out on an open pan in the middle of the day. Qalypso was so sleepy she allowed me to park close to her and to creep along the ground to get this low angle photograph.

Not all elephant calves are alike. Emma of the EB family had a wonderful calf and we could tell from the very beginning that he was going to be a very energetic and playful. He would constantly look for other calves to play with, chase imaginary enemies in the long grass with his head held high in the air and climb on older relatives whenever they lay down. He was such fun to spend time with. Here he is running to keep up with his mother and, with his ears spread wide, is doing a very good impression of Dumbo.

The elephants here are the subject of the longest-running study of wild elephants in the world. Started by Cynthia Moss in 1972, the Amboseli Elephant Research Project strives to create, maintain and make available an unparalleled body of knowledge of the African savannah elephant. Every individual in the population is known and monitored. Each evening the elephants leave the central swamps and head out into the surrounding rangeland to feed and sleep under the cover of darkness
