Kirsten Fernau Tench Lymphatic drainage massage is a waste of extra money! If you pay for a massage you are getting lymphatic massage! Lymph moveves very slowly and when you get a massage your atutomatically moving lymph! Save your money just get a normal massage!
angela peck, holistic skin specialist {Radiance through Wellness} @Kirsten Fernau Tench - I have to disagree. I used to believe the same thing. But I've been an esthetician for over 12 years now and no face massage, including acupressure (I studied TCM at the master's degree level so I follow those points) has achieved what MLD has for my clients. Yes, normal massage creates movement in the deeper lymph vessels, but even slight pressure temporarily slows down circulation in the lymph vessels that are just beneath the skin.
Sara Comstock @Kirsten - I not only disagree with you but KNOW that you are 100% incorrect. I have Lymphedema (look it up) and normal massage is NOT the same as LDM. Please get your facts straight before you post comments other than opinion.
Kirsten Fernau Tench I am studying Immunity and the lymphatic system, all our doctores agree!
Lorrie Douthwright Then you need to look at your "doctores" credentials. What you said is true, your body does pump lymph when your muscles are is use & regular swedish massage does stimulate lymph flow. However, there are times when someone has chronic edema problems that manual lymph drainage techniques are more effective. BTW, I'm Registered Massage Therapist that treats patients healing from cancer treatment surgeries, using MLD.
