"Mammatus clouds are most often associated with the anvil cloud and severe thunderstorms. They often extend from the base of a cumulonimbus, but may also be found under altocumulus, altostratus, stratocumulus, and cirrus clouds, as well as volcanic ash clouds. When occurring in cumulonimbus, mammatus are often indicative of a particularly strong storm or perhaps even a tornadic storm."

Pins on the Sky - A Murmuration of Starlings by Richard Barnes: Each fall and winter vast flocks of starlings gather in Rome, foraging in the countryside during the day and returning to the city to roost. Their flight patterns, surrendering the will of the individual to the flock may be as a defensive tactic to evade falcons, but may also be seen as inscribing a mysterious pointillistic message in the canvas of the sky. tinyurl.com/... #Starlings #Richard_Barnes
