Trying to be a better cook, if only because I'm embarrassed by how good my husband is in the kitchen. Sick of being a bad cook. Here's what I'm trying to cook, what I've mastered and any suggestions welcome

Jamie Oliver Health Grill; best thing we bought for the kitchen. Our oven grill is huge and this is the perfect size for grilling fish, burgers, rashers etc even chops. Plus 100 times healthier.

Chicken carrot and apple stew, another really good Annabel Karmel recipe. I tweak it a little to make it a little less runny and often mix with mash for texture but it's a great recipe for babies.

Salmon Broccoli and Three Cheese Sauce; one of the most successful baby food recipes from Annabel Karmel, Dara loves it and even when teething heavily this is one he will manage. It's also the first non pureed one he ate.

This is my ambition, to change the way I eat in order to be healthy and lose weight obviously as a side effect. One of the main reasons I want to cook more is to take more control of what I eat.

I may not be a good adult cook but thanks to Annabel Karmel I've turned into a gourmet baby cook! Dara is 9 months and has been on solids since 6 months, all from the AK book. His current favourites are Salmon and Broccoli in a three cheese sauce, Chicken and carrot and apple stew with pasta and Hearty Cottage Pie with Mash.

By far the best cook book I've come across for someone like me. I'm not a complete novice but I am a poor cook, with very big gaps in my knowledge. Jamie's books are simple but the food that results is excellent. Definitely a confidence builder.

SImple recipe from Jamie's Cook with Jamie book; produces perfect and impressive lamb shanks that had everyone complimenting me. A great one to build confidence.
