Salads in jars are easy and eliminate wasted ingredients! They look pretty and convenient so you'll eat them. Just make sure the dressing doesn't touch the lettuce, or it will get wilted. Keeps at least a week in the fridge. From mypinsmypinterest....

Gutter gardening - This was originally in Lifehacker via Mother Earth News, I believe. I told my parents about this idea and it's now how they garden in their small retirement home! From an acre of garden to this.

Not only is coconut oil highly antimicrobial, but... Coconut oil is excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Therefore coconut oil forms the basic ingredient of various body care products such as soaps, lotions, creams, etc., used for skin care. Coconut oil also helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.

Northern Lights in Lower Michigan - For my mom, who grew up watching these. I've never been lucky enough to see them, even though I've spent loads of time in Michigan.

Aurora Borealis, Acadia National Park, Maine Photograph by Michael Melford, National Geographic April 2, 2008 Nature's light show—aurora borealis—bathes Maine's Acadia National Park in a pink glow. These dazzling patterns in nature, called aurora australis in the Southern Hemisphere, are created when charged particles outside the Earth's atmosphere collide with atoms in the upper atmosphere, producing a glowing display of curtains, arcs, and bands stretching across the sky. Photograph shot on assignment for, but not published in, the November 2005 feature story "Autumn in Acadia National Park."
