You gotta love the 70s! Take a ride back in time and experience young love with all the fixings. You might even want to get up and soar the across the universe yourself.

The sci-fi film, The Fifth Element, is one filled with adventure and fantasy. Based on a story by Luc Besson, the film takes you on a journey set in the future where unique creatures and characters bring the screenplay to life. The setting and cinematography is superb. With its vibrant color scheme set against old time city neutrals, its a nice mix of a futuristic feel and everyday reality.

Filled with love, horror and amazement, Legend is a beautiful film that is showcased through a world wind of hues. With the fight between light and darkness, one travels within plenty of Earth’s natural color scheme. This cult classic is not to be missed.

With extraordinary cinematography, The Lovely Bones plays with saturated colors as well as pale, muted tones. This helps differentiate the real world and its sadness and the personal Heaven where Susie is looking down from. As her family tries to figure out who murdered her, you are taken to extreme levels of emotion that roller coasters its way through your heart and soul. Get the tissue box handy, sit back and be prepared to be amazed.

Lord of the Rings is a film where color comes to life. This imaginative story by J.R.R. Tolkien is based around a ring which can rule all rings and give its owner the power to conquer all. With hobbits, princes, wizards, elves and more, the story unfolds into an amazing journey of triumph and exploration. The trilogy of the Lord of the Rings embarks on a nature inspired experience where Mother Earth and fantasy come together to create a cinematic setting that is brilliant.

James and the Giant Peach is a classic film for children and people of all ages. Tim Burton brings this amazing story to life and allows us all to visit a place where our imaginations can soar. With all his little insect friends, he travels the high seas to find his way to New York City. Their journey is full of adventure and amazement. The color scheme used is full of life and holds a childlike feel, taking us all on the exciting trip with James we will never forget.

Last Days explores the final days of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Writer and director Gus Van Sant truly examines the feeling of isolation in the world with this film. From beginning to end, the darker more rustic tones of nature set the stage for sadness, weakness and the psychological sense of strength that is showcased at the end of the film when the character takes his own life. The rich colors of the cooler seasons embrace the story as it unfolds to its realistic and haunting finale.

One Hour Photo is a psychological look into obsession. The film’s main character, Sy, works at a one hour photo lab in a large department store and becomes infatuated with a family who gets their photos developed there. He finds himself getting involved with family issues to protect the wife of the family. What starts off as a caring gesture becomes a haunting and deadly situation.

Blue Valentine is a film about love and how time can change a person. The couple who the film focuses on fell in love at a young age and then got married and had a child. As they get older, the woman slowly grew apart from her husband while he grew to love her more. It’s a sad story that is told through a muted and neutral palette which really help set the tone for the cold and distant feeling that is being felt by the characters.

Donnie Darko is an independent film about time travel and a boy’s journey to understand the mind. He survives a bizarre accident and starts having weird visions which unravels into a story that is unique, dark and mysterious. The gloomy color palette and darker tones helps this psychological piece really embrace the story.
