Viva la Hanza I think WHAT you eat is way more important than WHEN you eat.

Profile picture of Jo-ann Jordan

Jo-ann Jordan Actually, for me it's the opposite. My dinners are so much healthier than breakfast. I tend to be rushing in the mornings and I do take my time in the evenings to make sure that I have a balanced dinner. My eating habits suck, though, and I tend not to eat lunch at all and just drink something hot for breakfast.

Keeping Baby Safe: A new study examined pediatric injuries associated with baby bottles, pacifiers and sippy cups. Researchers found that an average of 2,270 patients/year were treated in Emergency rooms for these injuries. Injuries occured more frequently in children who were walk or running with a sippy cup, bottle or pacifier in their mouth. sciencedaily.com and Nationwide Children's Hospital. #Babies #Bottles #Injuires #ScienceDaily #Nationwide_Childrens_Hospital

Annie Nickum I totally agree with the comments about being overprotective! On the other hand, I don't let my kid run around with a sippy cup or pacifier because the first one ruins his appetite and the second is unnecessary after a year

Profile picture of Diane Gerig

Diane Gerig BTW - before they run make sure their pants aren't to long, there are no scissors in their hands, the stairs aren't close by, they won't trip over the dog. In fact put that kid in a plastic bubble and make sure they never get hurt. LOL My kids are in their 20's and yes I did do all the common sense things and never had a trip to the doctor due to accidents of my stupidity. I am more concerned with BPA, genetically modified foods, food additives, etc. than anything else for my grand-daughter and future children. The common sense stuff takes care of itself with good parents, it is the other stuff that the news media needs to be reporting and trying to change so future generations are not affected... Monsanto needs to be condemned by the world and we need glass bottles and cups again.

A child who needs a bone marrow or stem cell transplant to treat a disease or genetic condition may have a lot of questions about the procedure. Be the Match and the National Marrow Donor Program have created “Super Sam versus the Marrow Monsters” to help parents explain what their child can expect before, during, and after treatment. Calm, informative and beautifully told by patients and their families, this is for all of us. #Bone_Marrow_Transplant #Education

Babies Take Longer To Come Out Than They Did In Grandma's Day by Richard Knox, NPR #Childbirth #Richard_Knox #npr

Profile picture of Melanie Coughlin

Melanie Coughlin Kcie Owens. . .I have experienced 3 different types of labour: an induced, epidural labour (8 lbs 12 oz); a totally natural labour( 8lbs 15 oz); and an induced, non-pain relief labour (9 lbs 15.5 oz) (the last was no epi because there wasn't time). My first labour would have ended in a c-section if my epidural hadn't allowed my body to relax and do it's job, and studies show a c-section isn't necessarily good either. The natural one was wonderful. I went into labour on my own, stayed at home for most of it and was able to tolerate the natural, normal rhythms of and unforced labour. It was an amazing experience. I was 10 days late with my third so I was induced. An induction is forcing your body into labour. The contractions and pain are nothing like a natural labour. Contractions are harder and faster. I could feel real panic. . .the freaking out, hyperventilating kind. . .creeping up on me. Is that any better for a baby? I was grateful it was over very quickly.

Profile picture of Kcie Owens

Kcie Owens Congrats on your babies! But that's not quite what I'm trying to say, which was clarified inny previous comments. I just don't get why women go for medication when they don't need it. I think it's worth your baby to have to go through that. But if it's needed to deliver your child in a healthier way, it's understandable. And that is only my opinion.... I dont want anyone getting furious over it. Ha.

Profile picture of Neoma Zimitravich

Neoma Zimitravich Melanie your experiences are similar to mine, the natural ones were nice but I was able to do it those times...my fourth one had to be induced because she was two weeks over and they were afraid she was going to start suffering from lack of placenta support. Induced labor is NOT natural, it is long and hard and gives you no time to rest between contractions, it was the scariest thing I ever experiences, I felt as if I was running a marathon while in excruciating labor pain. I said, NEVER AGAIN. But I have to say one thing, this euphoric natural high women talk of with natural childbirth, I think it is your heads, I felt no natural high, I felt icky and sticky and still in pain, and wishing I could go take a nice hot bath and a pain killer.

Profile picture of Neoma Zimitravich

Profile picture of Jan Brazier

Jan Brazier I do not argue that bananas are WORSE then cookies- I only argue that, like Lori stated, in some ppl you may as well give them a box of cookies if you give them fruit in terms of their reaction to them. My son is one of these people. I cannot give him any type of fruit before bed or he gets the sugar high/ up until midnight and he is only 3 rs old and then the sugar crash. He has not been diagnosed as hypoglycemic, but.... I'm seeing these traits.

Stephen Hayes we actually eat less today than in say my grandparents time (when breakfast was 3000-5000 calories), but we also don't work like they did, people today sit in a car driving to a job where they sit at a computer, sit in a car to drive home where they sit in front of a tv, and we eat 3000 a day (ok some are more), we don't exercise nearly enough to burn the empty calories from the processed foods that are supposedly better than the natural ones (margarine is a great example) my belief is if you can't eat it in it's natural state with maybe a little cooking then don't eat it

Joy Marie @Janice Dice- the article says it's the flour that causes you to get sick. (It explains why if you want to read it, but it does mention animal feces.... just totally gross!) Nestle's cookie dough has pasterized eggs so that's why they say that the girls who got sick, did not get that way from the eggs.

But you should be in awe that this kind of technology even exists.

It is a permanent modification that can be dangerous, why change your eye colour when it is a huge genetic part of who you are and where yoou've come from genetically. Blue eyes are deemed as more beautiful and that is why it has been created, we need to blame society for that. Things like this shouldn't exist; just saying !

Absorbable Stent by Abbott Labs: Currently, stents to prop open blocked coronary arteries are metal, are permanent, and present an ongoing risk for formation of blood clots despite drug coatings. These new ones are designed to be bioabsorbable. via WSJ tinyurl.com/... #Stent #Medicine #Abbott_Labs #WSJ

Steven McGaughey @Jane Wang I'll have to ask my dad about this, it's quite interesting.

Jane Wang @Steven McGaughey Love to hear his professional opinion.

Remy Goldberg @lynnDoty you have the absorbable ones already?

Profile picture of Lynn Doty

Lynn Doty @remy... After I read the absorbable part ... No. The dr showed me a metal stent they were using for me and they look just the same. Actually, all stents eventually end up absorbed into the coronary artery after so many years, from what I understand.

Remy Goldberg yes and no, the new ones will actually dissolve instead of being covered by arterial tissue

Megan Grabner Ah but it is true! It is showing the diversity in our resident microflora which our body needs, and illustrates how antibiotics wipe our the good bacteria that helps our body and how long it takes to recover and replace those helpful little microbes lost! taking a prophylactic dose of an antibiotic is what helps bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics and why we end up with strains of staph like MRSA

Profile picture of Sarah Bullington

Sarah Bullington the chart indicating that one should be essentially bacteria free, good or bad is the part I was saying was not true...and it's not. yes, with each prescription of antibiotics you lose gooad and bad bacteria alike. as for the prophylactic dose part, I was being sarcastic.

Little Albatross It's not saying you SHOULD be bacteria free. It's saying after 7 days you have very little bacterial diversity (which isn't exactly a good thing) and that it takes almost a year afterwards before you even start seeing that diversity again. If anything, it's a cautionary tale against taking antibiotics needlessly.

Kristen Easey This may be true for some highly potent broad-spectrum antibiotics. However, I have a hard time believing that enterococcus (gut flora) respond in the same manner as staphylococcus to a more specifically acting antibiotic such as cipro or keflex. That's why cultures are done, because certain infections/bacteria are susceptible to certain antibiotics but resistant to others. So, generally, I would think one's bacterial diversity would decrease but not disappear.

Marci Bigler For 6 YEARS my daughter suffered from the effects of a broad-range antibiotic that basically wiped out her good and bad bacteria. After her flora was back in check after about a year she was so little and had horrible effects of pain in her intestines that it was hard for her to go to the bathroom--and that was what drug on for the 6 years. I do not like giving my children antibiotics unless it is absolutely necessary and then I always give a probiotic along with it. It was so horrible!
