CPR Dolls of Different Ethnicities #Dolls # Race #Ethnicity #CPR

Rachel Kingsland While an infant or child with a completely blocked airway likely would begin getting that blue tinge fairly quickly, CPR should be started immediately if an individual becomes unconcious and isn't breathing. When I took CPR in December our dolls were white - but honestly who cares. Having a CPR doll that matches your ethnicity is no guarantee that if you ever have to perform CPR it will be on someone of the same ethnicity...
Sarah Côté-Fournier Okay so first, don't wait till the baby/child/adult turn blue before starting the CPR. second you take 5 seconds to determine if the person is breathing or not. if not you call 911 and start the compression. it's 30 compression and then 2 insufflations. and repeat until the person move or breathe again etc. or until the ambulance arrives. Basically there's one thing to remember 30:2 no matter if its a baby child or adult. What differs is wether you take two fingers, one hand or two hands to administrate the compression. Since 2005 we do not differentiate breathing rescue and CPR. Anyway that's the Canadian norms. Hope it helps some of you! :)
Alexis Carver this looks exactly like one fo the babies we had to take home for a week during my sophmore child development class. the kind that cry and u have to feed and change them.
Erin Malberg- Touchette not sure why ethnicity of baby matters. We are all the same on the inside. I am pretty sure that CPR will work no matter what color you are.

Jay Smith this is awesome
Courtney Fowler why would you have to post pictures on facebook? there is such thing as email still...
Kate Why not email? Or - gasp - even postal mail? There are also password-protected options, like Snapfish. Why expose your child to Facebook, when its privacy issues have been so widely expressed?
Amie Jones I do feel a little frustrated that I'm expected to keep up with the family via Facebook - as in 'Oh, I didn't know you were pregnant!', 'Well, I put it on Facebook.' And some of my friends are way to open about their children's potty training and the like. I really don't want to know that your child just went #2.

Isabel Rogerson Oh so true. sometimes I think we should go back to the three R's and get back to basics and tell kids how it really is in the big wide world. There is so much emphasis on self esteem nowadays that kids think they are all wonderful and soon get a shock when they get out there and find that they actually have some faults1
Susan Daniel Times change, but common sense should remain. Applies to lots of things, parenting, balancing your checkbook, etc....
Janet Mohr I think we all need to remember some things change, but love and caring never do. As to "modern" parenting, I am reminded of a line from the Disney classic Sleeping Beauty" when Prince Phillip tells his father "now Father, this is the 14th century!" Today's grandparents were yesterday's modern parent, and their parents & so forth. Remember to do less reliance on others and pay attention to the need of each unique family. I guarantee that no one does everything exactly the same and that's the way it should be.
Patricia Rodriguez I am so sad to read all these comments, My mother and my grandmother raised me,And 2yrs after my second child was born both died within 1 yr of each other. My son is 28 single no kids. My daughter is 28 ,a 4 yr old boy and a 2 yr old girl. she bought a house 2 blocks from me. I have been in my grand kids life and plan to be there as long as god gives me. My grand kids are my world and my daughter and son in law would never think for a min. I would let anything or any one hurt my babies. So just be happy your parents are around to love your kids.
Donna Kunkle @Edie, She should feel blessed to have a grand daughter to watch. I didn't read all the posts. sorry she feels that way.

Lindsey Bashline Food for thought: In generating the energy use to power a incandescent, more mercury is emitted into atrmosphere than the amount contained in a CFL. What is cutting the life of your CFLs: http://www.seattle.gov/ligh... What the legislation is really doing to bulbs: http://www.cityofloveland.o...
Andrea Norton My family switched to compact fluorescent bulbs a couple of years ago. It made a significant impact on our power bill. My husband has a lamp made from an old power meter and I conducted an experiment using incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent. Compact fluorescent used a fourth of the energy of incandescent. I'd say that is pretty significant. FYI President Carter created the first energy policy as well as the department of energy. This change should have been enacted years ago.
Roger Stephens The whole point is to use your options wisely---different fixtures call for different lights. It's about saving money---who doesn't like that?
Mary Beth Norman yes, 100 watt bulbs are being phased out (fyi older/used Easy Bake oven use them, so don't buy @ yard sales. Overall, we need to do more with alternative green sources, (& that includes the auto industry). I don't think any President since Carter has done much to improve their energy policy, More piplelines for oil/gas just doesn't cut it anymore.
Chris Coon My grandson got into my daughters kitchen cabinet and found some regular light bulbs and threw them on the floor, good thing they were not the ones full of mercury.

Sue Berhalter you have to listen to your body, if it hurts... stop!
Carla Neufeld hot yoga is the best way to NOT injure yourself. the heat relaxes the muscles making it less likely to pull anything, but you can't expect to do the postures perfect! just try a bit more every time!
Mia Kelly I will definately listening to the body!
Gillia Lambert listening to your body is always a part of exercise, no matter what type. If you don't, you will get injured. Yoga, however, is usually one of the least harmful exercise regimes - depending on your instructor.
Melanie Moon I will continue to go to hot yoga undeterred. Frankly, the article seemed like an anecdotal drive-by media hit piece intent on vilifying the yoga craze. Unfortunately the examples provided consisted primarily of individuals (especially instructors!) who had abandoned the foundation of 'honoring/listening to one's body and practicing without ego or competition'.

Michelle Sellmeyer Wow!
Holli Reed Bieler Why would we be talking about how much time this took? It is art! I think it is pretty cool and I could get a lot more out of this then a lot of paintings that I have seen in museums.
Dennise Perri We talk about it because it is our opinion at the time we viewed it. I do my best to respect others viewpoints about things they see on here....full well knowing that it may not be my taste or preferance. But, never am I rude about it. Sorry if my orriginal post (opinion) bothered/offended you. I was not aware of the of the 'career' of the person who created it. But still was not critical in my comment.
Laura Gibson I could do this sort of thing with words, instead of pictures, as my way of giving thanks to God for all that I have, no matter how trivial someone else might think it is. And you are right about how it is the things that we can't "see", but what is truly important, such as love, happiness, peace, hope, etc.

Umm Amanah Elizebeth I agree with you 120%!!!!!! You are damned if you do and damned if you don't.
knitteresq Interesting how one commenter brought up Speech Language Pathologists seeing a decline in expressive language skills... Most of them are actually using iphones/ipads in their practice these days to improve BOTH expressive and receptive language skills. And it's nothing new, before the ipad they were using similar devices (incidentally that cost about 10x more and did far less) that were used to improve expressive language.
Cathy Harris I am not a speech path, but I am a Parent Educator. And I do use the I-pad2 for home visiting. This piece is a huge incentive for the child to do a Parent/Child activity and complete it before they are aloud to use the I-Pad2. And I work with many children who may have speech delay, Apraxia, or other delays. I even had one child who suffered from cancer and closed up himself to the world. My I-Pad helped bring him out of that phase because he liked to play memory games with a candy striper at the hospital he had his Kemo at. I have many educational app's that are very beneficial for the child's brain. But with any device, I-pad, Phones, TV.. There should be a limitations to their use. A child birth to five needs the "Face to Face", intellectual conversation in a rich oral language environment to learn communication. I am totally guilty using the I-Pad with my grandson who was slow in developing his speech, talking Tom And talking Roby helped him.
