I love good books. Funny I don't have any yet on my board. Possibly because one of the things I do for a living is write and review. I am kind of particular.

My father's memoir. Robert C. Baldridge was 19 when he left Yale, enlisted and fought until the War was over. While alive, he was considered an expert on WWII and spoke numerous times on all aspects of it. PS: he did finish Yale after. However he told me it seemd a bit silly, after fighting in WWII.
First book I ever read of John Barths, I was in grade school. I later got him as a teacher in a creative writing class. He was my complete hero. I have never done so badly in a special class ever in my life! AEE OWWW!!!
WATERSHIP DOWN by Richard Adams, who also wrote the eerie, strangely arresting, Girl in a Swing, on of my other favs.

Jean Yates I wonder if he also liked The Girl in the Swing, by the same author, An amazing book, totally different,
Franca Gilbert He did not read that one...he is always trying to get our kids to read this one...one down, two to go...not much luck...yet....He has written a book of his own..
Jean Yates My two oldest sons read--but not the others! well two of those are autistic, however it is a computer world here--it is just a fact! Don't let them read Girl in a Swing!!! LOL!
Franca Gilbert I have one daughter with T1 Diabetes...
Jean Yates That is so hard. I have two dear friends with children with that. I really empathize with you. You and I live day to day. My sons have seizures, as well. I call people like us "car lifting mothers" because we have to be THAT STRONG to care for our cherished children. As strong as it takes. xoxox jean
In his most extraordinary book, "one of the great clinical writers of the 20th century" (The New York Times) recounts the case histories of patients lost in the bizarre, apparently inescapable world of neurological disorders. Oliver Sacks's The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat tells the stories of individuals afflicted with fantastic perceptual and intellectual aberrations: patients who have lost their memories and with them the greater part of their pasts; who are no longer able to recognize people and common objects; who are stricken with violent tics and grimaces or who shout involuntary obscenities; whose limbs have become alien; who have been dismissed as retarded yet are gifted with uncanny artistic or mathematical talents. If inconceivably strange, these brilliant tales remain, in Dr. Sacks's splendid and sympathetic telling, deeply human. They are studies of life struggling against incredible adversity, and they enable us to enter the world of the neurologically impaired, to imagine with our hearts what it must be to live and feel as they do. A great healer, Sacks never loses sight of medicine's ultimate responsibility: "the suffering, afflicted, fighting human subject." do not miss this.

From the Author | From Wikipedia F. Scott Fitzgerald was one of the major American writers of the twentieth century -- a figure whose life and works embodied powerful myths about our national dreams and aspirations. Fitzgerald was talented and perceptive, gifted with a lyrical style and a pitch-perfect ear for language. He lived his life as a romantic, equally capable of great dedication to his craft and reckless squandering of his artistic capital. He left us one sure masterpiece, The Great Gatsby; a near-masterpiece, Tender Is the Night; and a gathering of stories and essays that together capture the essence of the American experience. His writings are insightful and stylistically brilliant; today he is admired both as a social chronicler and a remarkably gifted artist.

It was a great book, too. I have read everything William Goldman ever wrote.

collaborative edition of the Elements of Style . E.B. White was Roger Angell's father in law, interestingly enough. Roger Angell wrote for the New Yorker, specializing in baseball. Sort of cool.
