The Savvy Sage We love our Buff Orpingtons! They sometimes do go broody, but can be easily broken of it. They have been totally reliable egg layers for us! They don't lay as much as our White Leghorns, but they make up for it in sweetness. But the best brown egg layers are Red Stars (mix between White Leghorn hen and Rhode Island Red rooster).
Joani Schofield Wow! There is so much to know about chickens. I will have to pick the brains of all you pinterest people when it comes time for me to get my own.
Michelle Hoad My Buff must have been a anomaly. She got incredibly agressive and started attacking me and my kids. I have two new ones and I'm hoping they stay docile like they are supposed to. Mildred and dumplings was delicious though.
Sharon Kitchens I just ordered 1/2 dozen this morning for late April arrival.
Krystall Lawlor They are great layers and are so fluffy and pretty but they aren't good for hot climates- we've lost every one we've ever had to heat stroke. :(

Dee Ann Housman Where is this? I would love to see it in person.
Joani Schofield I am not sure, it is an image from Tumblr, which often makes it hard to trace. If anyone knows, please share!

Vicki De Boer So worth following the link - unless you already know the word "skep".
Joani Schofield The skep was a popular design throughout Western Europe and pioneer America. It derived its name from the Anglo-Saxon word skeppa which simply means basket; the typical skep was a conical basket made of long wheat straw coiled and stitched with blackberry briar.
Vicki De Boer Yes Joani - that IS what I learned by clicking on the skep! Learning a new word or new thing every day is a good thing!!!
Joani Schofield :) I thought I would help out! I am going to research later and see if anyone has made one of these recently - a diy version. It would be fun to see the process.
